If you ask us, Poppy deserves a medal for valor or at least some type of honor for her bravery as an acknowledgment for what the poor pup went through.
Not only was poor little Poppy maimed but she dragged herself to safety past fearsome predators like elephants, lions, and hyenas.
Basically, Poppy is one hell of a fighter.
According to The Dodo, Poppy was just a puppy when she sustained an injury that crushed her spine. Her rear legs were rendered immobile as she suffered from her injury for weeks or potentially months.

Despite her injury, she somehow made her way to a remote elephant research camp in Botswana, dragging her legs behind her.
Susanne Vogel, who works at the research camp, spotted Poppy and was baffled at the sight of her.
โShe came crawling โ literally crawling because her back legs were completely immobilized โ into our research camp,โ Vogel told The Dodo.
Though she was unable to use her legs, Vogel said she was โfull of love and seeking help.โ

They were completely shocked that Poppy was able to survive since she was injured and the area is heavily laden with predators.
โThe camp is in a remote region, filled with elephants, but also lions, hyenas and other predators,โ Vogel said. โPoppy had somehow made it to us, emaciated and soaking wet from the rain.โ
They named this miraculous pup Poppy and decided they would get her the help she needed.

โItโs amazing she survived and made her way to us,โ Amanda Stronza wrote in a GoFundMe donation page for Poppy. โShe is bursting with the sweetest spirit. We drove her to the nearest veterinary clinc, an 8-hour drive on terrible roads and ferry crossing over the Okavango River.โ
It turns out that two of Poppyโs discs were crushed and she needed surgery to survive. The surgery was estimated to cost $2,000 to $3,000 which didnโt include post-op care. The GoFundMe set up for Poppy sought to raise $3,000, but instead, raised more than $10,000.
Poppyโs rescuers were surprised by how quickly she regained her strength. Though sheโs still paralyzed, Poppy has recovered.
We are beyond happy to report that Poppy was adopted and now lives in the U.S. with a loving family who takes very good care of her. She even has her own Facebook page!
