One of the things you learn as a new parent is that babies cry. A lot. And there is often no real reason why they start crying. There’s often even less rhyme or reason when it comes to making them calm down and stop crying.
Sometimes it’s a favorite toy, sometimes it’s a car ride in the middle of the night, sometimes it’s a certain TV show or song. It can be incredibly frustrating, exhausting, and infuriating. If only babies could learn to talk faster and tell us what they want!
Sometimes, though, the family dog can help remedy the situation.
Some folks think that dogs and babies don’t mix. They worry that the dog might get aggressive and harm the baby.
While it’s possible that some dogs might not be best for children, there are many that are incredibly gentle and loving with their human siblings. As long as the parents are careful to supervise the pooch and their baby’s initial interactions, there’s no reason not to give it a try!

Growing up with a dog can be an incredibly precious experience for a young child. It gives them an opportunity to practice sympathy, empathy, and respect for all living things. When they get older, having a dog to take care of can also be a lesson in responsibility. Taking the dog out for walks, feeding the dog, and cleaning up after him are all great ways for kids to learn that life isn’t all fun and games.

But, when the child is still young, the dog can sometimes take on the role of the caretaker. When babies are still helpless and unable to do anything but lie there, the dog can make for a pretty decent “babysitter.” Mom and Dad can use any help they can get in the first few months of learning the ins and outs of parenthood.
When one little baby just couldn’t be soothed by Mom or any of her usual tricks, an unlikely helper came in to save the day.
You guessed it, it’s the family dog!

As the baby lies on his back crying, the fluffy white pup sits next to him, looking a bit worried. Then, he decides to give something a try.
The little dog lets out a howl as if he’s trying to sing a lullaby to the weepy baby.
Amazingly, the dog’s efforts to sooth the tiny soul work incredibly well! Maybe it’s because the little boy is confused about what the family dog is doing, or maybe it’s because it’s a brief distraction from whatever was on his mind before.
Regardless, I bet Mom was happy to discover her dog’s hidden talent.
I’ll bet that this pooch and baby will grow older together like two peas in a pod. Soon enough, the little boy will be big enough to hold the fluffy pooch in his lap and comfort him during thunderstorms or in old age.

Again, while dogs can be great for babies, it’s important to watch the interactions closely when you first introduce the two. Some pups can get nervous or territorial when bringing a new baby home, so it’s best to proceed with caution!
Thankfully, this pup and his baby friend get along perfectly, and Mom and Dad have absolutely nothing to worry about.
