With the political climate the way that it is, the constant drama with police brutality, and a lot of other bad news, it’s always good to see something that brings people together no matter how unlikely that thing may be. This time, it’s the Cupid Shuffle.
During the annual Mardi Gras event in New Orleans, Louisiana, theres a popular parade that takes place called the Zulu Parade. Thousands of people turn out for the parade, lining the streets to see what exciting characters are going to make an appearance. This is a tradition that has been going on for decades.
Like any large scale event, especially in the busy streets of New Orleans, things like this need security. Along with droves of people lining the streets, there are a handful of officers on the street ready to keep everyone in check. One of those officers, has got some series dance moves.
This crowd control officer was feeling himself as he danced alongside about 15 others on a crowded sidewalk.
Someone blared the Cupid Shuffle as another was filming the whole thing. The officer matched the crowd move for move as the song played in the background. It was clear from the look on the dancer’s faces that they were surprised he was joining in. His actions spurred more as more people began to join in the unexpected event.
The video has since gained over a million views. Commenters love the positive message his actions sent. “This officer is a great addition to the community! It is such a treat to see him interacting with the people who live and visit here. What a great way to show the people you serve and protect that you truly embrace them. Keep up the good work!” says one YouTube user. “This is nice to see especially now with all that is going on between cops and communities.” said another.
This isn’t the first time that this has happened either. This officer has also been caught doing the wobble in another Youtube video a few years earlier. Similar to the Cupid Shuffle, you can see the friendly officer hopping in on a impromptu dance to the Wobble, and just like this video, he takes everyone by surprise and is not afraid to have a good time with complete strangers.
We need more officers like this in communities everywhere. When you connect with the community the way he has, it makes everyones lives easier. And it doesn’t take much to be a positive influence.
