Horsin Around

While the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread and wreak havoc on multiple nations, people are still doing their best to make sure they can do the things they love to do. The internal conflicts of not being able to see your family, friends, and loved ones can really take its toll over the long, gruelling days. Thankfully, there are some of those who lead by example and take matters into their own hands, or in this case, their own feet.

Take for instance, Fiek Vdh, a dance instructor from the Netherlands, who looks to continue her passion by staying active and appreciating the beautiful outdoors as much as she can.

Fiek decided that it was time to involve more people in her routine and so she coordinated a socially-distant dance lesson in a park. To her amazement, a variety of willing participants and dance students gathered round to practice as well as some unforeseen surprises that quickly caught the attention of the internet.

The event was held at the end of May at Zuiderpark in The Hague. Fiek’s modest assembly of students harmoniously gathered to practice salsa moves with social distancing guidelines put into place. While the students enjoyed their time dancing in nature, a surprise visit from the Zuiderpark Police Unit came in for a little routine of their own.

The police unit, who arrived in horseback, were captivated by the awesomeness of the instructor’s class and decided to join in. Not only that, but it seems the horses decided to join in on the fun too! An amazing video captured by Bob Bogaard shows the entire group follow Fiek’s instructions and even captures the horses mimicking the dance routine!

Two-Step Troopers

Fiek and her students were awe-struck at the sight of the horses following suit. Delighted and overjoyed, they shared smiles and laughs with the officers who seemed to be also enjoying the wonderful moment. So moving in fact, that Fiek decided to share the inspiring moment on Facebook.

“Last night I did a salsa lesson in the Zuiderpark The Hague,” Fiek posted. “Two police officers on horse came by and decided to join a dance! Great and what an enthusiasm.”

A dutch journalist by the name of Martijn Mastenbroek tweeted about the video that Fiek posted and has made internet headlines. It has since gone viral and people all around the world couldn’t help but laugh and be filled with joy.

You can see the horses in the background forming their very own routine as they begin to two-step from side to side. The officers also joining in on the fun by using hand motions to get a piece of some of the action.

Both the stallions then followed with a confident spin move to show their own personal touch. Who said horses couldn’t dance! At this point, the crowd seems to be loving it given their enthusiastic smiles and energetic movement.

It’s pretty incredible seeing such a wonderful example of people getting involved to help their community get through these tumultuous times. We need more people like Fiek to help those in the community combat the struggles of being overtly cooped up as a result of this pandemic.

Not to mention, it looks like these horses needed to let loose too! Truly an uplifting event that demonstrates the power of dance and the effect it can have on people and animals alike.
