Meet the man behind the photos
Meet Mr. Geert Weggen, a Swedish/Dutch national who has been recognized internationally because of his talent. He specializes in nature photography. He became a professional photographer last 2013 and has proven that his work is one of a kind. His recent works have circulated the Internet and have wowed many!
His amazing works include photographing wild squirrels in their most unique, magical, and playful nature. Aside from his great works as a photographer, he also published photo books.
Around 6 years ago, Weggen came across a fox in his doorstep. After giving him food to eat, the little fox started coming back to his balcony. After a few weeks, this fox started playing with Weggen’s photography props. Soon after, birds and squirrels followed.
“Little did I know back then that it would become my living,” said Weggen to My Modern Met.
Building a connection
If you think being a nature photographer is hard, Geert’s work is so much more! From riding a toy dragon, to playing chess, to eating a small cone of ice cream – these red squirrels looks like they are a pro in modeling.
When asked how he comes up with his amazing photography ideas,
“I have always been a fantasist, a dreamer. Most of the time I see things that were not there according the people around me. I would say they were wrong. The world is a big place for dreaming and fantasy. It is one big wonder. Ideas come the whole the time and they seem to never stop,” Geert explained to My Modern Met.
This amazing photographer has built an entire outdoor studio for his amazing subjects. The studio is made out of wood, trees, and of course plants. Aside from his amazing props, Geert has his little secret in luring the squirrels into his beautiful outdoor studio.
The secret to his great photos
When asked, what was his secret in making a connection with his subjects – he simply answered,
“Food. Mostly it is about that. If I did not have food they would not come.”
Although, Geert also admitted to My Modern Met that there are birds and squirrels who like to climb on him and follow him. We’re guessing these adorable animals know that Geert is an awesome man!
Another secret that we see is his love for nature and animals. Of course, patience is another secret that a photographer should possess. All in all, this man enjoys his work and his interaction with nature and these animals.
