Becoming a big sister is so exciting! There’s that sweet baby scent and itty bitty fingers and toes to delight over, not to mention chubby cheeks to nuzzle, plus the coos, squeals and giggles.
But it also can bring out a wee bit of jealousy in even the sweetest older siblings. There are quite a few things new parents can do to help ebb the flow of jealousy, such as spending extra time with the older sibling while the baby is napping and helping them care for the wee one.
An older sibling also can be pampered with a brand new bedroom so she can escape the crying baby, just like Molly’s parents did for her.
Molly is the cutest little furry Westie who was about to become a big sister to a two-legged human soon to be named Catelyn. So her parents opted to build her her very own room where she could seek solace when Molly needed a break.
“She is the best wee dog who had been very spoiled up to this point, so we didn’t want her to feel less important when the baby arrived!”
Dad Michael McGowan found the perfect spot in their home — under the stairs! The problem was that this area was already walled off from the hallway, but it was an unused space that she could easily and comfortably fit into.
So Michael cut a hole in the wall, peeked inside and deemed the space perfect for Molly. Even Molly thought it would work.
After analyzing the space, Michael realized that remodeling this area of the house just for Molly would take quite a bit of worth. But she’s well worth it, her parents decided.
So with the expert guidance from Paul McArdle of Prestige Household Solutions, they cut through the wall and dug into the work. He framed up the area, cut a spot for the doorway, screwed in plasterboard and had Molly check it out.
Molly’s dad put up the cutest doggie wallpaper, set up mood lighting that changed colors and even acquired Molly a crushed velvet couch to go along with her dog bed. He lined it with her favorite stuffies.
“Molly had been waiting on the couch so I bought her a new one for her room.”
This cute canine room was personalized with wall art and other items such as a framed photograph of her. It’s hard to believe that this room is even sweeter than her spot outside, Michael noted.
But the final test was whether or not Molly dug her new digs.
“Luckily she likes her new home better than the one in the garden.”
Michael wasn’t sure if his dream could become a reality, if Molly could be spoiled before the baby arrived. His project ended up looking fantastic!
“The best doghouse in the country, bar none!”
The rug leading into Molly’s room described the situation perfectly: one spoiled dog lives here. This new room is perfect for a princess who undoubtedly will be the best big sister to her new baby.
