When you think of animals that hunt salmon, dogs aren’t usually the first animals that come to mind.
But it turns out, when they’re given the opportunity, some dogs turn into natural fishermen! That’s just what happened with two pit bulls who proved that they had some amazing fish-catching skills.
Ken Weisner is the owner of two playful pit bulls named Kaylie and Elijah. One day in 2014, Ken left the pit bulls with a friend who brought the dogs to a local river.
At the river, the dogs had a great time running in the water and chasing giant salmon. Amazingly, the dogs were able to reach into the river and grab huge salmon with their mouth.
The two dogs both dragged their salmon back to the riverbank. Once there, they proudly showed the person they were with what they caught.
This amazing video quickly went viral, and it has received over five million views. Everyone loves watching these two dog fishermen at work!
The video has also received some hilarious comments. Many YouTube commenters joked that the dogs probably thought they were saving the fish from drowning.
Another YouTube commenter said that this video proved that if you have a dog, you don’t even need to bring a rod when you go fishing!
While the video is cute, Ken does say that other dog owners shouldn’t let their pups hunt salmon.
In the description of his video, he explains that he wouldn’t have allowed the dogs to catch the fish if he had been there. However, he also explains that the salmon had finished spawning and were at the end of their life cycles.
After the dogs caught the fish, Ken’s friend put the salmon back into the river to die naturally and to feed the local wildlife.
After the success of his first video, Ken has released many other videos of his dogs having fun in the river on his YouTube channel. These cute videos show Kaylie and Elijah jumping around in the river and having fun together. He sometimes even straps a GoPro to his dogs and shoots the videos from the dogs’ point of view.
It’s great that Ken shows videos of pit bulls simply relaxing and having fun. Videos like this help combat negative stereotypes about the breed.
Ken has also taught Kaylie and Elijah some other cool tricks.
He taught one of the pups how to fetch down a pipe. Ken placed a stick at the end of a pipe, and the smart dog was able to track it down. Ken was incredibly proud of his dog!
Kaylie, Elijah, and Ken also have lots of fun when they’re just hanging out at home.
Ken shared one cute video of the two dogs playing with a laser pointer. They loved chasing the little red light!
Kaylie and Elijah are two energetic dogs who love playing together. They’re also big fans of swimming in their local river, and they loved getting the chance to fish for salmon. To see the two fishing dogs in action, check out the video below.
