If there’s one thing we can say about animals, it’s that they’re unpredictable! Species of all shapes and sizes never stop surprising us with their amusing antics and unexpected behavior. And you really never know when a furry friend might just pop up in your life and give you a special story to share. That’s what happened to an Australian woman named Sally Watkinson, after she noticed something strange and fluffy hiding away in her dog’s fur.
Sally is the owner of several pulis. The puli is a Hungarian sheepdog, famous for its unique, corded coat that looks a little like dreadlocks. They’re funny looking dogs, but very friendly and docile in general.
One day, while walking her pulis, Sally spotted something clinging to one of their backs! Upon closer inspection of her dog, named Kato, she discovered that it was actually an adorable baby possum, that had somehow found itself on the path of the pulis and decided to hitch a ride!
Sally’s husband, Jon, spent the rest of the day trying to find a wildlife rescue service or refuge to get the possum the care it needed. In the end, with the possum still holding on, the couple had to walk Kato and the other pulis to a local vet.
Sally shared the whole story on Facebook, complete with some funny photos:
So here’s something you don’t see every day. A Puli (Kato) with an orphaned baby possum attached. Said possum apparently found Kato and climbed aboard to hitch a ride. Jon spent the rest of the afternoon researching wild life rescue and eventually had to walk the dogs to a nearby vet to let them take the possum prior to collection by the wildlife rescue. Hugo and Kato seemed to barely notice it was there. Its most surprising that Hugo was not barking frantically at it. Apparently Kato was seemingly oblivious also
But wait! The story gets even more interesting from there.
As if it wasn’t unusual enough for this odd occurence to happen once, it actually happened again! Sally later had to update her original Facebook post, revealing that yet another baby possum had decided to give Kato a hug and hitch a ride in his cozy fur.
Sally also wrote that the vet was astonished to see Sally and her dogs arrive again with another possum in tow.
She explained that the first possum turned out to be a little girl and was being looked after by a carer, while the second was a boy who would also be placed into care.
It seems like these super cute possums both believed that Kato was their papa. Either that, or they just decided that he had a particularly warm and fuzzy coat that they just couldn’t resist.
Either way, we’re happy to hear that both of them survived and are doing well. This just goes to show that you never know what might happen the next time you take your furry friend for a walk.
