Cearra Swetman had always felt insecure about her looks. When a drunken man made snide comments about her shirt, she didn’t get down on herself. She got the best revenge possible.
Cearra is a young woman from Fort Myers, Florida; she’s also a mother of three. About a year ago, Cearra weighed near 250-pounds. She had always struggled with her weight but had never reached the goal she always dreamed of achieving.
“I didn’t feel attractive, I just felt out of shape,” she said. “And didn’t feel good about myself.”
It was one day that Cearra was wearing a Hooters t-shirt when a drunken man felt the need to make a rude comment to her. This ignorant comment, however, would be the driving force to not only meet her goals but to shatter them.
“You don’t look like a Hooters girl I’ve ever seen,” the intoxicated guy said to Cearra.
Not only was Cearra outraged by such a rude, catty comment from a complete stranger, but she was also determined to get something positive out of something so negative. “Living well is the best revenge,” is a famous quote by poet George Herbert. This is precisely what Cearra was going to do.
The young mom decided that she was going to use his words as motivation. The nasty comment drove Cearra to start eating right, exercising, and losing weight. She ended up losing close to 130-pounds in just one year. All of this was amazing, but it wasn’t the best part.
After losing 128-pounds, Cearra ended up getting a job at the very place in which she was told she “didn’t look the part” — Hooters.
On top of working out, eating healthy, taking care of her kids, and working at Hooters — Cearra is also working on obtaining her master’s degree in business. Oh, and her second job? She also works at a glass and mirror shop. A place that she no longer hates going to because of her reflection.
It’s obvious that Cearra is a bit of a superwoman, her weight loss journey is absolutely incredible. But she also has a heart of gold. Her sister is currently battling breast cancer. As a sign of solidarity, Cearra has decided to shave her head. She’s living proof that people can do the most incredible things if they just put their minds to it.
Cearra’s advice for when obstacles seem insurmountable, “Don’t give up, but if you just keep that goal in mind, and take small steps, you will get there.” More on her amazing journey in the video below.
