Recently, a young girl was playing in the sea near Gouville-sur-Mer, France. She was there with her family and her grandparents’ overprotective dog – a Newfoundland.
The girl—who looks like she is about six or seven years old—and the dog, Matyas, were a couple of yards away from the rest of the family. She was having a great time, splashing and playing in the water.

A day at the beach
The waves were not too high and didn’t pose a genuine threat. The young girl was perfectly safe playing a few yards away from her parents and grandparents.
The family was there in case she needed help, but it looks like somebody else might be even better at taking care of her. Matyas didn’t leave the girl’s side while she was in the water.

In the video, you can see that Matyas was staying very close to the girl while she played. He was being cautious and didn’t want anything to happen to her.
“Dangerous” waves!
The waves seem to have been a little bit too choppy for the pup’s liking, so he kept a close eye on the little girl. In reality, these waves were pretty mild.

The waves gently rolled over the girl, causing laughter each time. She stayed in the ocean, soaking up all of the water and sunshine. She was loving it!
The rescue!
When a small wave crashed on the girl, Matyas swooped in to save the day. As the girl tumbled, Matyas was preparing to help her.
The wave was pretty small and barely washed over the girl’s head. From Matyas’ point of view, she was in danger and needed to be saved quickly.

Immediately, Matyas used his teeth and grabbed the girl by her shirt to pull her to the shore. He carefully—but quickly—dragged the girl through the low waves.
The whole time that the Newfoundland was rescuing his owner’s granddaughter, he checked on her. He would stop every few feet to make sure she was okay.
Maybe not all that serious…
Of course, the girl wasn’t really in danger. While the dog pulled her to shore in a valiant rescue, she giggled and splashed. She thought it was hilarious that the dog thought she needed saving!
Even when the Newfoundland had pulled the girl to very shallow water, he wouldn’t let go. He needed to make sure she wouldn’t get hit by another wave.

In the video, when another wave comes by, Matyas carefully pulls the girl in the other direction. He doesn’t want that one to get her either.
Luckily, the girl’s mother was close by and managed to get the entire thing on video. Countless viewers have shared the video.
According to Metro, one viewer made a joke, saying, “I guess you can’t go to the beach with him if he’s going to be dragging you out of the water every time you’re having fun.” This might be true, but at least you will be safe in case anything dangerous happens!
Almost everyone who has seen the video is impressed with how well Matyas watched the girl in the water. They are even more shocked at how effortlessly he pulled her to the shore.
Newfoundlands are great with children. In many lists, they are at the top because of how well they care for kids. From this video, it’s clear to see how true that really is.

In some places, Newfoundlands are trained to save people from drowning at the beach. It’s safe to say that these are very trustworthy and caring pups!
Matyas did a great job of watching the young girl as she played to make sure she didn’t get hurt. He didn’t step away from her for a second. Then, when it was time for the rescue mission, he was ready to go!
Even though the young girl wasn’t actually drowning, it’s nice to know that this dog was looking out for her. If she had really been in trouble, Matyas would have been happy to help!
Now, Matyas is being recognized as a hero all over the Internet. Everyone is glad he was there to help the girl—even if she wasn’t in real danger!
