From sign-up to account cancellation, she describes it all in detail.

Before the pandemic jolted all of us into the “new normal”, we were free to go where we wanted and meet with whomever. That’s why dating was so much more enjoyable – you never knew when and where you would meet this potential partner next. Is it the coffee shop you always go to before heading to work? The grocery store where you get all the essentials? There’s really no telling who you’ll bump into.

But even before cities were put on lockdown, technology already changed so much about the dating and socialization scene. Walking up to an attractive stranger armed with a coy introduction isn’t the only way to try and get someone’s attention anymore.

Now, one can just open an app on a mobile phone or a website on their computer, key in a few details, swipe left and right, and find a potential match to meet up with.

Even the older generation is in on it.

That’s why we appreciate this woman’s honest review of a dating website called OurTime.

The description on the website reads,

“At OurTime.com, we honor the freedom, wisdom and appreciation for life that only comes with time. We also recognize that what people want in their 50s, 60s and beyond is often very different from what they wanted in their 30s and 40s, let alone their 20s. This online dating community focuses on the specific interests and desires of people like you.”

Cheryl, the woman behind the travel and lifestyle blog The Lifestyle Digs, walks her readers and viewers through the experience.

She didn’t bother with tweaking her profile completely but she did key in her preferences: age range of 53 to 73 years old, non-smoker.

The blogger decided to leave the other fields blank but was surprised to find that the next day, Ourtime had 8 new matches for her.

That wasn’t the only thing the dating site had for her, either. The emails began arriving daily, offering discounted membership rates. She realized the discount rates kept increasing by the week until it reached 65%. That was one of her first tips: wait it out until you’re offered a rate you find reasonable before accepting the offer. Cheryl also received a message from a man named Mike which she found perplexing as her profile didn’t have photos and other interesting details.

She stumbled upon interesting information, too. In her blog, she writes,

“There were a lot of reviewers accusing the site administrators of being up to funny stuff. Apparently, staff are creating profiles to generate interest and get new paying members onboard. According to some reviews, OurTime staff can jump in to any members profile and send out likes and flirts to other members to try to create interest. Yikes!”

After finally deciding to go for the paid membership, Cheryl ended up editing her profile by adding photos and interesting information about herself.

It didn’t take long before the “likes” began appearing in her inbox as new message notifications. But she found it odd that she never heard back from the first guy who messaged her.

“Mike doesn’t respond. Maybe he’s just not into me. He now sees photos of an aging wannabe cowgirl and decides that’s not a match. Or maybe – I’m one of those poor suckers that got catfished by an OurTime staff member!”

How disappointing. The only good takeaway from the experience is how cautious Cheryl was from the get-go and it didn’t convince her that she was the problem, that she wasn’t interesting or attractive enough.

With more suspicious activity than curious, fun ones, Cheryl was able to conclude that it wasn’t a good dating website at all. You’ll love her brutally honest review how she words it and how detailed it is – screenshots and all!) – something her readers and viewers will definitely appreciate as a word of caution should they decide to try online dating themselves.
