Once in a lifetime moments are treasured like no other. Those experiences aren’t always captured on camera but when they are it’s definitely something to cherish. When you have that incredible moment on film you can look back on it whenever you please to enjoy it once again.
Incredible Moments
As for these Cyclists that went to visit South Africa for the Cape Argus Tour they got the surprise of a lifetime when riding during the famed bicycling event. When people get into professional cycling they have to practice a lot before hitting the winding roads. Cycling takes all kinds of agility and strength, along with plenty of caution.
On The Open Road
This well-trained cycling crew was excited and ready to ride at one of the biggest cycling tours in the world. Never did they think they would have an encounter this unique. Oleksiy Mishchenko and his pals were riding in the Cape Argus Tour when he saw a giant figure running towards them. Oleksiy stayed calm and kept on riding until he saw it was an ostrich coming right for them!
Feathered Friend
The speeding ostrich ran right past Oleksiy and started chasing his 2 other friends ahead of him. He had a camera attached to his helmet and that’s what captured this incredible interaction. It’s not every day that you get chased by a giant ostrich while riding your bike 30 mph. We keep rubbing our eyes to see if this is even real!
Once In A Lifetime
But sure enough, Oleksiy and his friends were racing with a large feathered competitor. Ostriches can run up to 43 mph so this big bird had no problem catching up to these bikers. It’s pretty amazing to see an ostrich race like that all up close and personal!
Mind-Boggling Memories
The bird was swerving all over the road trying to see what these bikers were up to. We certainly can’t imagine being those cyclists… how wild would that be? Probably as wild as it gets. This once and a lifetime moment was posted by Oleksiy and now has over 12 million views on YouTube.
Wild World
You could say this ostrich race is a real hit! Oleksy captioned the video saying,
“Suddenly, I spotted a white ostrich on my left, then this beast jumped on the road from the right and started chasing my friends! It was a little scary at first, but then I thought I gonna fell of my bike from laughter. The ostrich didn’t have any problem to keep up at 50km/h and apparently they do 70km/h with no sweat.
Luckily the creature decided to leave us alone, as we were running out of road. The Cape of Good hope is a dead end way.
My guess he wanted to show off in front of his girlfriend, i bet she was very impressed!”
Ostrich Race For The Books
Oleksiy and his friends will be telling this story for the rest of their lives. Thankfully this beautiful creature didn’t harm the cyclists. He was more so interested in what all of this bicycle fun is all about! This might just be the coolest video we’ve ever seen.
