It’s not easy being a police officer. They put their lives on the line every single day, even if they’re just on traffic duty. They also help keep all residents safe, no matter how big or small.
Police, firemen, and first responders go out of their way to rescue the community’s tiniest members when they are in need. Firemen are often thought of as the heroes of the animal population, and they often are.
However, policemen are there for the little guys, too.
When Deputy Bryan Bowman was doing his rounds around KP Hole in Rainbow Springs State Park in Florida, he came across a very old gentleman causing a disturbance on the road.
As the officer’s frustration built up, he decided to make an example of the lawbreaker and turn on his camera.
Deputy Bowman holds up his phone and starts off saying,
“The nerve of this guy. He’s literally going one mile per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone.”
I’m sure that every cop sees a lot of infuriating things on their shifts, so it really makes you wonder, what about this particular situation ticked this officer off so much that made him send this message to the world? Cops must deal with slow drivers all the time. I don’t know about you, but I always slow down when I see a cop car pulling up behind me. One speeding ticket ten years ago was enough for me!
However, when the officer says the next line, you get a hint that maybe this is more lighthearted than you thought.
“I tried to talk to him, and he snapped at me. I don’t know what this guy’s deal is!”
Maybe it’s the tinge of sarcasm in Officer Bowman’s voice, or maybe it’s the look on his face, but it’s pretty certain that he’s pulling our legs. At this point, I can’t wait to see who is being such a slowpoke in front of him.
Finally, when the camera flips around, you see that it’s a harmless tortoise taking a leisurely stroll on a busy road! I laughed out loud when I finally saw this little guy going about his business in the middle of the street. He has no idea what a raucous he’s causing.
There was one true line in the video: the creature did snap at him when Officer Bowman tried to approach him and steer him back into the woods. For about 20 minutes after, the jokester Officer followed this old man with his lights on, warning traffic behind him to slow down and pass in the other lane.
If you ever come across any wildlife causing a disturbance, it’s always best to call the authorities for help getting him back to safety.
You don’t want to put yourself in danger! If this tortoise had been a snapping turtle, that snap at Officer Bowman could have done a lot of harm.
Squeezing in one last wisecrack, Officer Bowman says,
“Come on grandpa I’ve got places to be. Everybody wants to drive slow with a cop car behind ‘em. Can’t get nowhere on time”

Everyone’s a comedian these days.
Luckily, in the end, no one was harmed. The pokey tortoise finally moseyed back into the trees to go home to the shade.
