Evie Allen started her job at WSIL TV as an intern and worked her way up the ranks to a morning news anchor.

On New Year’s Day she was on-air, going through her regular routine with her co-anchor, Tony Laubach.

She thought it was going to be a regular day…

But she had no idea that her boyfriend talked to her team at the network in advance and organized for a big surprise!

Evie’s co-worker ended his segment by talking about the weather and mentioned an icy forecast.

She looked a little surprised by that already. Maybe Illinois was in the midst of some beautiful weather… or maybe because her co-anchor was going off-script.

“We’re getting some reports of ice. In fact, I believe that ice is coming around the corner as we speak.” – Tony Laubach

This gave the cue for Evie’s boyfriend to step out on stage with the cameras still rolling, and reveal his epic surprise.

Before she could even process what was happening he walked onto the set saying “Happy New Year”. I don’t think she believed for one second that he’d just strolled on down to the studio to say hey and give her well wishes for the New Year.

She looked absolutely shocked though! And then…

He gave her a bouquet of flowers, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him.

Evie seemed totally surprised!

Good thing she’s already so comfortable being on TV or she may have been nervous with all those cameras around – I’m sure her new fiancée was!

He must have been pretty sure she was going to say yes.

“You know that I love you… and I had something I wanted to ask you. So, Evie, will you marry me?” – Matthew Barton, Evie’s fiancée

She was totally surprised but couldn’t be more thrilled after saying “yes”!

Just look at that ice! (…as Tony would call it)

The best part was that she had to keep reading the news after the proposal!

That’s pure dedication to the job.

I can’t imagine having to work immediately after being proposed to – especially when it’s being broadcast locally… but she crushed it.

Evie was super professional even though she was clearly still riding the high of her incredible surprise.

She was trying to keep it together and focus but was absolutely beaming from ear to ear – who could blame her?

“It’s going to be an awesome new year!” – Evie Allen

Yes – what a way to kick it off!

I’m sure she and her new fiancée were flooded with well wishes from her morning news fans. They must have been just as surprised and swooning when they got to witness the proposal first hand!

What an amazing and special way to ask such an important question. They will definitely never forget it, especially because it’s been captured on television!

Kudos to her creative husband for going all out and proposing in the most magical possible way!
