Have you heard of Snapchat Maps?

Maps are the newest technological addition to the Snapchat app. All you have to do is pinch the screen on your Snapchat camera to zoom out and see a realtime map that shows the locations of you and other Snapchat users.

The wonders of technology, right? Well. Not exactly. Snapchat Maps has been getting a bunch of their users in various forms of trouble. For instance, if you’re sneaking around with another woman on the sly…

Today’s story of Snapchat Maps awkwardness, thankfully, does not have anything to do with infidelity. It did, however, lead to a viral Twitter post and some global embarrassment for its “victim.”

Please be advised that the man in the following story is TOTALLY OKAY, as was later shared to Twitter by the person who tweeted the initial photo and Snapchat Map and caused an uproar of concern.

Here’s the Tweet that found its way around the world:

That fellow sure looks a lot happier on Snapchat Maps than he does in real life, no?

No, the man isn’t dead. He is stuck, however. He had tried to take a photo from the mud, and instead ended up getting stuck inside of it for 45 minutes.

While he waited for help, his friend tweeted this collection of photos, not clueing people in that he knew the person, and that that person was inconvenienced, but not in mortal danger.

Twitter had a field day.

Finally, the friend who released the information to the Twitterverse gave some closure to the story.

And so the day ends with a laugh, a viral tweet, and a potential life lesson: don’t lie face down in quicksand-like mud and not expect to get stuck and then taunted by your friend via Snapchat Maps.

A good lesson for everyone!
