A piano duet is good, a comical skit is good, combine them both together it will become an undeniably great and fun performance.
Playing the piano is no joke. The pianist needs to have 100 percent focus to hit the notes correctly.
This duo showed the audience that no matter the circumstances they face, they can still play William Gantz’s “Qui Vive Galop” superbly.
The magic of four hands
Who says piano can only be played with two hands? If you are thinking the piano is a solo instrument, you are wrong.
It can be played by two people at the same time using only one piano. It is called the piano duet or piano four hands wherein the piano piece is written for two people.
The piano player on the right plays the high notes while the other on the left is playing the low notes.
The grumpy and the joker
Hyung-ki Joo starred the night alongside Yu Horiuchi as they played “Gantz’ galop” with a whimsical performance.
It started when Ms. Horiuchi and Mr. Joo are fighting for who should be much more comfortable sitting on the duet bench.
They proceeded to snatch the copy of the piano piece for themselves and put it on their side of the bench. Then Mr. Joo pranked his partner at the start of their performance making the audience laugh out loud.
Hopping with the rhythm
“Gantz’ galop” is a piece with very jolly tunes. Mr. Joo and Ms. Horiuchi are so right to be a little bit comical while playing it.
Both literally hopped around while playing the piano putting smiles on the faces of the audience.
It is like they are dancing together on the duet bench while rigorously playing the piano.
Trading places
Both continued their activity until the last part of the piece. Ms. Horiuchi still makes that grumpy and serious face while Mr. Joo keeps on clowning her.
The two of them showed another interesting technique in playing a duet. They traded places on the move while one or two of their hands are on the piano keys.
It was no sweat for them switching to a different role in the duet. The switch was done very quickly while they continued to play the piece flawlessly.
It was really surprising that they nailed every note even when Mr. Joo just keeps on joking around with his mouth open wide all the time.
Bravo! Magnifico!
For legit and professional artists, musicians, performers the show must always go on whether they are being loved or hated by the audience.
Mr. Joo and Ms. Horiuchi’s awesome performance got a big round of applause from the audience and had a lot of likes when the video was posted on youtube. However, there are also negative feedbacks from the netizens which are inevitable to those who perform.
Some say that they made a joke out of the whole performance and ruined the essence of the wonderful piano piece. And the others criticized the clowning of Mr. Joo saying he is annoying.
No matter what people say, both piano players had fun on the stage performing and brought smiles to the crowd. It was indeed a “Jaw-dropping” hilariously executed performance!
