After his mom dies from breast cancer, football star pays for 500 mamograms in her honor
This former football star loses his mom and four aunts to breast cancer. In their honor he helps other woman get a mammogram.

Cancer is a disease that has taken far too many lives, it strikes randomly, and there is no full-proof way of preventing it. For one NFL star, that reality became all too real, when his mother passed away from breast cancer. Showing his true character, the football player paid for 500 mammograms in his mother’s honor.

This NFL star has paid for over 500 mammograms, all in honor of his mother who passed away from breast cancer at age 53.

DeAngelo Williams is a former NFL superstar who played for the Carolina Panthers. Williams knows all too well, the damage breast cancer can bring. In 2014, William’s mother, Sandra Hill, died from breast cancer, she was only 53-years-old. On top of losing his mother, the former NFL running back has also lost 4 aunts to the disease.

In 2015, William’s started a non-profit called “53 strong for Sandra” in honor of his mother. Since then the organization has paid for over 500 mammogram screenings.

The non-profit go state to state, giving free mammograms to 53 women from each event.

The goal is to eventually give free mammograms to women in every state! So far they’ve made great progress, going places like Pittsburgh, Memphis, Jonesburg, and Charlotte.

These mammograms can be life-saving for these women, William’s knows this, that’s what drives him to continue help spread awareness about the disease.

“To be able to help all these women is amazing. This can be life-changing for these women. We are enabling them to get this care that no one should ever be denied or not have access to.” Williams said in a statement.

The former NFL star, is a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness, with plans to continue helping.

Williams knows the seriousness of the situation and has made sacrifices to spread awareness. When he was still an active player in the NFL, he was fined nearly 6,000 dollars for wearing customized eye blacks that read “find the cure.”

When the NFL told William’s he couldn’t wear the pink accessories that stand for breast cancer awareness past the month of October, he died his hair pink so you could still see the message on the field.

William’s is such an inspiring person, he dedicates his whole life to breast cancer awareness.

His non-profit “53 Strong for Sandra” will continue to spread awareness in honor of his mother, and the age she passed away at. DeAngelo and his family are completely dedicated to the cause. They know every mammogram counts, and that everyone, can potentially save someone’s life.
