Silkie chickens are known for the beautiful, fluffy feathers and sweet, funny personalities. If you ever thought of having a chicken around for company, then this would be the breed you should pick! Marshmallow happens to be Silkie that lives up to all those traits but seems to get herself into a situation or two now and then. Marshmallow’s owner identified as Imgur user WyrmsWorks describes the breed in a nutshell,

They’re bred to be less physically capable, so they’re easy to contain, and they’re also bred to be very calm and trusting, with no emphasis on maintaining normal survival capabilities.

One day, the owner took a moment to share some of the situations Marshmallow finds herself in so people might really understand her silliness.

At first, he couldn’t find his beloved pet ANYWHERE, but after looking high and low, he found her in the last place he expected–the trash can.

Marshmallow was trying to avoid Waffle; a persistent male Silkie was attempting to mate with her. However, Marshmallow wasn’t about that life! She hid away to avoid his pecks and annoying mating calls!

Another instance where Marshmallow got herself into a bit of trouble, was when she decided to roll around in freshly tilled dirt. Silkies are known for their beautiful, fluffy feathers, but they don’t look so great when they’re covered in all that grubby soil!

Unfortunately, the roll in the dirt meant bath time for Marshmallow. It’s safe to say that the wet chicken look isn’t exactly sporting her best features.

Of course, Waffle was still close by.

A quick blow dry later, and there’s no denying that she cleans up nicely!

A few days later she was less fluffy and dirtier–but Waffle didn’t seem to mind one bit!

More About the Breed

According to Wide Open Pets, the origins of the Silkie aren’t entirely known. However, it’s assumed the chicken was first introduced somewhere in Asia. While most chickens typically have a purpose such as for meat or eggs, Silkies are appreciated more for their natural beauty.

They are classified as an ornamental chicken breed and are the most popular breed in this category. They are raised as pets, and some breeders focus on perfecting their traits to get a replica of the best features.

Countryside Daily highlights some of the most prominent features of the Silkie breed. For instance, Silkies have turquoise earlobes, they have feathers on their legs, and they even have five toes! People should understand, however, that Silkies are known for their broodiness.

Broodiness means that the hen wants to hatch a chick (even if she doesn’t have any eggs!), so Silkies will spend many hours or even days perched on anything that resembles an egg!

However, it’s their calm disposition that makes people fall in love with chickens like Marshmallow. It’s not hard to understand why so many people love this particular breed (even if they do get themselves in a pickle from time to time!)
