Pets go missing all the time. As sad as that is to say, itโs inevitable when cities are so big and pets love to wander out when no oneโs looking. Thankfully, most people recognize a lost pet when they see one. Itโs usually the collar or the look of being well-fed.
Also, pure-bred dogs donโt just pop up in the streets for no reason.
In large part due to people being in the know, this lost Labrador found someone to keep him company while he waited for his owner to claim him. Out in the concrete jungles of North Caroline, a chocolate Lab named Roxy paced back and forth on the streets.
Jason Gasparik happened to be driving by when he caught sight of it. The dog seemed confused and looking for something, which gave away the fact that it was a lost dog.
That, and Roxy was clearly well-fed, as Jason observed.
She was apprehensive to get too close to Jason, but he managed to convince her to approach after some playful invitation.
The noble human went out his way to bring her in for a vet checkup too. There, he had them inspect her microchip. Maybe this would help in tracing her back to her owner.
Roxy had a chip indeed, but it wasnโt registered to an owner. So there goes plan A.
Taking her home to look after her in the meantime, Jason had to conceive a new plan of action to reunite Roxy with her owner.
Roxy was now spending the weekend at Jasonโs, while he kept at his attempts to reunite her with her human. He even shelled out $40 for an ad on Pawboost.com to let more people know about Roxy.
He did some hands-on sign-boosting too. Carrying a sign around and walking to the local vets in hopes someone would recognize the dog.
โLet me make this sign and Iโll go down to the local vets, and Iโll see if they recognize this dog. Which none of them did.โ
In big, marker-drawn letters read the words โDO YOU KNOW THIS LSOT DOG???โ.
Naturally, the sight slowly attracted more and more attention. Heads were turning and cars were stopping. A man holding up a sign, helping a dog he doesnโt know is just too wholesome to not take notice of. Of course, some people took pictures and gave them even more exposure.
It wasnโt just the streets, either. The amount of attention that Jason and Roxy earned spread to the internet as well.
In fairness, Jason probably needed this. If it was going to help him find Roxyโs family faster, then he could definitely use the help.
โOne lady even stopped her car in the middle of the intersection.โ โ says Jason
Of course, Jason couldnโt help but smile from all the sweet and positive attention they got.
โIt was fun. I think she really enjoyed it too.โ
Then, after a wonderful weekend with Roxy, Jasonโs efforts came to fruition on a Sunday.
That fateful Sunday, a woman got in contact with Jason and brought some good news. She knew Roxyโs family, and assured Jason that sheโd contact them and let them know about the dog.
โShe messaged me saying โHey, I think I have the owner here. Call me.'โ
Arriving to meet Jason and Roxy was a man named Ed. He drove to meet Jason, and opened the door before giving a โHey Roxy! Roxy girl!โ, to which Roxyโs ears perked up and her tail wagged. This confirmed to Jason that this was definitely Roxyโs dad.
This wasnโt goodbye, though!
Such a sweet duo couldnโt just part ways for good. No siree.
Jason, and likely Ed as well, knew that this friendship Jason had built with Roxy was too good to forget. So Jason talked to Ed about visiting Roxy every now and then and taking her for walks.
Thatโs just the ending we all wanted. The absolute sweetness of this story just makes my day, and it might make someone elseโs too. Give it a share and find out!
