Animals are free beings, and they have to be free to do whatever they want. Horses in particular loves to roam around the green meadows and chew on blades of grass peacefully. Even when domesticated, they deserve to go outside their stables to have some fresh air.
It is understandable for horse owners to keep their horses in the stables, but they arenโt really made to stay in one spot for long.
In some parts of Romania, they have a way of making their horses stay.
Instead of using stables or long leashes for their horses, people chain their horses from the back or front legs together in order to hinder them from running away. It simply results in immobilizing the horse almost completely. They would injure themselves as they try attempting to escape from their chains.
This might be the cruelest way to keep the horse.
One could easily hear the horsesโ scream of pain as they struggle to get themselves away from their chains. This was what happened when Ovidiu from an animal rescue vet, FOUR PAWS, happened to pass by a chained horse in Letea, Romania. He felt bad for the horse, and he was thinking about how to free the poor animal from the chain.
They attempted to rescue the poor, chained horse.
Ovidiu wasnโt alone at that time, as there was another member of the vet office that brought his camera. As Ovidiu tried to rescue the horse, the other member made sure to capture the whole process. As they took the video, they managed to capture the horseโs priceless reaction after he was rescued.
Firstly in the video, Ovidiu immediately went to tranquilize the scared creature so that he can easily remove the chains. It stopped struggling after a while and then Ovidiu went to check over the condition of the horseโs legs. He examined the horseโs legs well and found out what happened to him. The poor animalโs legs are marked with deep lacerations from the chains, and they have clearly been causing the horse a lot of pain.
While examining him, Ovidiu slowly worked through removing the chains. After a while, Ovidiu and the team were successful in cutting off the chains. The team watched in anticipation as the horse was beginning to wake up from the tranquilizer. What you will see afterward will truly warm your hearts.
As the horse stands properly for the first time in possibly years, you can instantly see how grateful it is, and before running free with its friends, the horse stops to do one special thing.
Ovidiu is crouched on the floor, making sure that the horse is comfortably standing on its legs. The horse knew that in front of him was his rescuer, so the horse gave Ovidiu his kindest gesture, by bowing down and giving him a kiss on the forehead. Ovidiu was certainly surprised about it, but he knew that it was thanking him for releasing him from the chains.
The video was shared onto YouTube by FOUR PAWS International, and since being posted it has racked up an impressive 13.8 million views from people all over the world who felt gratitude towards Ovidiu for his amazing work.
The horse then runs free with its friends, and Ovidiu and his team can leave happily, knowing that they successfully freed another horse. What an amazing organization!
