If this is what the new normal is going to be like, then weโ€™d like whoever is in charge to please reconsider.

โ€œCarpe vinumโ€ takes on a whole new meaning, thanks to a man called Gabriel Moreno who hitched a ride on a tanker truck filled with wine.

Youโ€™d think a motorist hitching a ride wouldnโ€™t be that questionable, but apparently Moreno had something else in mind. Something that would make even the toughest truck driver turn wary of him and immediately notify the authorities.

Moreno was driving behind a truck with his hazard lights on. Assuming it had something to do with a mechanical issue, the truck driver pulled over on Highway 99 in Modesto, California.

It wasnโ€™t long before he realized there was something very odd with Moreno.

The first weird incident was when Moreno alighted his car wearing only his underwear.

Is this a case of someone just trying to pull a harmless prank in hopes of going viral on social media? Nope. The almost naked motorist proceeded to approach the passenger side of the truck.

Fortunately, dashcam footage captured it all.

Seconds after, the truck started pulling away from the side of the highway. Consequently, Moreno appeared into view and was seen making his way to the underside of the tanker.

There were no noticeable issues on the truck so there was really no reason for Moreno to actually go as far as going underneath the truck.

How very odd.

It turns out Moreno went out of his way for a reason. He managed to unscrew one of the valves under the truck.

Then, he guzzled the contents as the truck sped down the highway.

Wine. It was filled with wine, and Moreno just had to have his fill.

In the most bizarre way possible.

California Highway Patrol officer Tom Olsen describes what happened to CBS 13.

โ€œThis individual was able to release the wine from under the tanker, and he placed himself underneath the tanker in such a manner, the best way to describe this was somebody doing like snow angels.โ€

In a Facebook post, Stanislaus County Sheriffโ€™s Office shares a detailed description of what took place:

โ€œOn Wednesday, May 6th, 2020, a sergeant with the Stanislaus County Sheriffโ€™s Department took notice of a large crowd gathering in the parking lot of the Community Services Agency located at 251 E Hackett Road in Modesto. Officers with the Ceres Police Department were also on-scene at the time and were trying to detain a man later determined to be 39-year-old Hayward resident Gabriel Moreno. Moreno had only been released from the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center (PSC) moments earlier for an arrest the day before by the California Highway Patrol for misdemeanor driving on a suspended license and felony vandalism.โ€

This weird stunt resulted in a loss of 1,000 gallons of red wine.

Thatโ€™s equivalent to about 5,000 bottles.

But thatโ€™s not all that happened. Moreno was rightfully arrested because of this incident and just after his release, he was once more arrested, this time on charges of felony auto theft. See, wine isnโ€™t Morenoโ€™s only weakness. He was actually distressed by the early release; quite unhappy that he didnโ€™t get the sandwich that was part of the meal at the PSC.

He badly wanted it, so he had to find a way to return to jail.

Moreno actually attempted to steal a truck owned by landscaping company. And just as heโ€™d predicted, an employee called the cops. What a way to get that sandwich, huh?

Olsen says this was one of the strangest incidents ever reported.

โ€œIโ€™ve listened to thousands and thousands of calls, This oneโ€™s up there in the top 10.โ€
