Every once in a while we hear amazing stories of human kindness that have the power to restore our faith in humanity. This is one such story that showcases that our humanity is best manifested when we help others in their time of need.
Help often comes from unexpected places
Erica Usinger from North Caroline was driving on an interstate highway when her tire had blown out. Unable to change it, Erica was stranded on the highway for longer than 20 minutes before the much-needed help arrived.
“My tire blew out on I-85 and I had a very difficult time getting over to the side of the road and was waiting for at least 20 minutes with my hood up and no idea how to change a tire before someone stopped,” wrote Erica in a Facebook post.

Just when it seemed that nobody was going to help Erica, a young man pulled over to change Erica’s tire. According to her account, Teewon was on his way home from work and tried to change her tire with the spare one she already had. However, that was impossible because he discovered that the spare tire was also flat. So Erica not only had a blown out tire but now her spare tire was too flat for her to use.
With no other option left, Teewon used his own spare tire to help Erica
Erica called her mom to help and when she drove over to bring her spare tire, they discovered it was also flat. Teewon then decided to give Erica his own spare tire and they drove to the nearest gas station where they filled their flat tires.
“He used his own spare so that I could safely get off the side of the road and lead us to the closest gas station where he could fill up my spare and change out the tires. He also filled up my mom’s spare tire in case of an emergency. We offered to buy him dinner for everything he had done for us but he wouldn’t allow us to and just asked if the opportunity arose to pay it forward and do something kind for someone else in need.”
His kind act prompted Erica to try and find him and share the story with other people. Teewon’s girlfriend, Ling Ling McNeil Nixon, eventually contacted Erica and told her he works for Wells Fargo in Charlotte.
“What was a bad evening ended on a positive note and restored my faith in humanity,” Erica said.
“We are trying to get this post shared until they can see what an amazing employee they have and what he was willing to do for complete strangers just out of the kindness of his heart,” she wrote on Facebook.
‘Just a neighbour’
The story publicized by Erica and Teewon’s girlfriend attracted a lot of attention on social media. The post was shared almost 30,000 times. Neither she nor Teewon himself expected the story to become so popular.
In a video he sent to Erica to thank her for the kind words, he said that he doesn’t feel like a hero, but was simply being a good neighbour. “I feel like if we can help a person in the smallest way possible, we all can make a difference in this world,” he said.
Teewon’s act should be an inspiration to all of us to be brave and help others because true kindness and humanity never go unnoticed.
