Isn’t it amazing how you can spend a boatload of money on pet furniture only to have your cat or dog jump up on the human couches and chairs?
Sometimes they do it because they want to be near you. Other times they just find it more comfortable. And occasionally they do it just because they like to push boundaries.
Of course, many of us gave up on trying to keep our pets off the furniture long ago, knowing it’s a losing battle. At some point, all you can do it make sure it’s comfortable, relatively stain-proof, and easy to get the hair off of.
Or you could do what Aleecia Dahl’s grandfather did and choose your furniture with your pet!
Dahl’s grandfather never wanted a dog. But like so many of us who love animals but don’t necessarily want the responsibility, the right creature might eventually come along and make us feel like we have no choice.
That’s what happened when Grandpa met Coco.
Aleecia Dahl told The Dodo:
“Coco is the dog Grandpa never wanted but cannot live without. They are the best of friends that he never knew he needed.”
The duo is inseparable both at home and out on the town, so it made sense that when the newly enamored dog owner needed a new chair for his home, Coco would also have a say in choosing the right model.
Grandpa and Coco’s original favorite chair had finally seen the end of its days. Dahl’s grandparents had just moved into a new home and decided a replacement was in order. But all agreed that any new chair would have to get Coco’s approval first.
Dahl said:
“When grandma and grandpa moved, they [needed to buy] new furniture. It was Grandpa’s requirement that the footrest on his lounge chair was wide enough for him and Coco to sit side by side.”
That makes sense if you like cuddling up to your furry friend while lounging in your living room.
And one might imagine that a few measurements would do the trick. Grandpa could have easily headed off to the store to try some new models and estimate the amount of room Coco would have.
But that wasn’t good enough.
In order to be sure they could continue their days relaxing together in the living room as they had in their old house, Dahl’s grandfather insisted on bringing Coco to the furniture store to really give the merchandise a test drive.
Of course, there are allergy issues to consider but the staff seemed pleased to cater to all of their customers, human and canine.
“He brought Coco into several stores to try out chairs until he found the perfect one,” Dahl said. “Coco was always greeted with a smile, as I am sure it’s not every day a man and his dog go furniture shopping!”
It’s clear Coco had a great time on her shopping trip and we’re pleased to report that the duo found their ideal chair.
