When we decide to visit an animal shelter, looking for our next family member, there are many factors we take into consideration, such as the age of the pet, its breed, and if it has any health issues.
So, it’s no surprise at all that pets that belong in these more vulnerable groups are often overlooked and not even adopted at all. This means that many of these animals pass the remaining of their life confined in their little cells in the shelter.
Our story is about one of these animals, whose fate changed after she was spotted by her future “sister”. Meet the shelter dog, Suzie, who used to be a mom, meaning she was older than the pets that are usually adopted.
Suzie has spent many months in her kennel in the shelter, looking at the dogs in the neighboring cells, coming and going, while she was never been chosen to leave with her forever family.
SAVE A HOUND created a beautiful video about Suzie’s adoption to raise awareness about these dogs that are often overlooked and left behind in the shelters. They posted the video on YouTube and the response they got was incredible more than 8 million views!
The video was titled “If this video about a shelter dog doesn’t move you, check your pulse!” and from the very beginning, it makes our heart melt. The video starts showing how lonely and blue was Suzie’s life before she was adopted. Confined in her tiny room, Suzie would spend her days gazing at the other dogs that would be chosen for adoption.
Poor Suzie would in vain wait for someone to look at her the way they were looking at her other dog friends. Sitting by her glass window, with her cute eyes, looking eagerly at the families visiting. Until one day everything changed!
It only took a moment and a bright smile from a little girl.
Suzie was sitting like usual by her glass window, watching people go past her kennel. One of those people was a little girl, visiting with her family. Although the family passed Suzie, the little girl stopped at her tracks and returned to stand outside Suzie’s kennel. Suzie must have been really surprised by the girl’s appearance.
The little girl crouched in front of Suzie’s kennel and smiled warmly at Suzie!
She quickly placed her palm against the glass window as a way to say, “Hey, I see you”.
At the same moment, Suzie lifted her paw, trying to touch the little girl’s hand. What a beautiful and heartwarming moment!
The beginning of a lasting friendship between the two.
Suzie had finally found her forever home and a family that loved her. Fast-forward to a few weeks later, Suzie is totally acclimated to her new home, pampered as every dog should be, and completely in love with her new family. Hopefully, this video will help more animals belonging to those more vulnerable groups that are often disregarded, to find a home and finally have a comfy life.
