Ulanqab City in North China is an area that is teeming with wildlife, largely due to its remoteness. It is part of an autonomous region of the Republic known as Inner Mongolia. Once you get outside of the city, the green grasslands and wide-open spaces stretch for thousands of miles.
Although, for those animals living right on the border of the population center, it can be a constant battle for survival.
Human expansion poses a massive threat for the various species living in the surrounding habitats. It’s something that is showcased perfectly by a recent YouTube video released by CGTN.
They captured the shocking moment that a mother bird, living near the city, threw herself in front of a moving tractor to protect her eggs.
It’s something that all animal lovers need to watch. In just a few short weeks, the viral video has already racked up hundreds of thousands of views.
The video begins with the red tractor steadily plowing across the landscape. However, unbeknownst to the farmer, his trajectory is right in line with a mama bird and her nest.
At the last minute before arriving to the nest, the mama bird comes charging out to stop him.
She quickly runs over in front of the tractor, wings spread apart and flapping away trying to get the farmer’s attention.
Luckily, the brave mama bird’s desperate move works.
The farmer sees the bird and stops the tractor, just in the nick of time.
It is so fortunate for the bird that the farmer is a kind soul.
There are some people who would just keep on driving. However, this man took a much different approach. Not only did he put the tractor in park and replan his route so as to avoid the mama and her babies, but he even offered her a bottle of water. The weather was scorching outside and he thought that maybe she could use a drink.
“That’s so heartfelt. I hope they survive. Animals often try their best to communicate with us,” one YouTube commenter wrote.
We definitely agree. The farmer is a very kindhearted man and he understood exactly what the bird was trying to tell him.
The mama bird’s behavior is something that is universal across all species.
Whether you are a human, bird, or any other type of animal, all mothers have a protective instinct. When it comes to their kids, moms are often willing to sacrifice everything to save them, even if it means risking their own life.
“Don’t mess with the mommas, no matter how big you are! No one is going to hurt those babies!” said another user.
Although, the farmer was just trying to do his job, and if he had realized beforehand that the mama bird had her nest there, we’re sure he would have tried to avoid them.
Hopefully, the farmer marks the spot so he can simply drive around the bird family in the future.
While it’s true that human expansion is affecting animals, luckily, there are still a lot of people out there, like this farmer, who are doing their best to mitigate the damage.
Maybe in some alternative sci-fi future, both humans and animals will be able to speak the same common universal language. It would certainly make things easier. Although, until that time arrives, we’ll just have to do our best to communicate with one another the best that we can.
