Dogs are a man’s best friend, the bond you form with your k-9 is a friendship that is indescribable. Dogs are also fiercely loyal, standing by their owner’s side through thick and thin. More commonly, owner’s bury their dogs and not the other way around. Not in this case, this is how one loyal dog, stood by his Dad’s side until the very end.

This dog was rescued by this family, his loyalty is amazing as he stood by his dying owners’ side.
Benny is a beautiful dachshund mix that was left roaming the streets in the aftermath of the 2017, Hurricane Harvey. He was brought to Washington with other found dogs that we’re left without a home.
The poor dog had no choice but to wait and hope for a family to adopt him. Finally, the Ballenger family saw the devastated dog and instantly fell in love with him.
Now with a forever home, the puppy found a close friend in Matriarch Scott Bellenger.
From the moment the Bellenger family took Benny in, the puppy and Scott Bellenger became inseparable. The two went everywhere together as if they were attached at the hip.
The bond between the two was obvious, Benny and Scott had a bond that was apparent to everyone around. The rescue dog new from the moment Scott took him home that this was his new best friend. Soon Benny would have to show his loyalty in a heartbreaking way.
When Scott became critically ill, Benny was beside himself as he had to say goodbye.
On August 29th, Scott Bellenger was admitted to the hospital with his condition worsening rapidly. As his life slipped away, the family knew they would have to bring his best friend Benny to be by his side.
Benny quickly realized there was something wrong, the loyal dog wouldn’t leave Scott’s side as his condition got worse and worse. The family was beside themselves as they had to say goodbye to their loved one, Benny snuggled as closely to Scott as he could. He literally refused to leave Scott’s side until the very end.
The Bellenger family does their best to try and comfort Benny, but he’s lost without his sidekick.
Benny is heartbroken without Scott, he often roams the house aimlessly, whining for his best friend. When you are with someone every day suddenly losing them, the grieving process is something that is unavoidable. Hopefully, time will help Benny and the family start to heal.
Scott’s girlfriend and daughter are doing their best to give Benny as much love as possible, they made it their mission even while they are greaving too. For this family that clearly loves each other and their puppy, hopefully, they can help each other get through this tragedy together.
