Simon Cowell is known for his harsh criticisms on television, but he secretly has a heart of gold. When he learned that one little boy’s Christmas was ruined, he did everything he could to turn it around. Thanks to Simon’s generosity, this little boy got back the thing he cared about most.
Edward Latter is only two years old, and his best friend is his pet dog. Morse, the nine month old border-terrier puppy, is a cherished part of the family. The two were growing closer with each passing day – until tragedy struck.
Right around Christmas time, someone stole Morse away from Edward. The little boy was absolutely heartbroken. His parents wondered who would do such a thing, and why they would willingly ruin one of this child’s first holiday seasons.
The family searched high and low for the dog, but to no avail. It seemed the puppy would be gone for good. Edward was overcome with grief. He felt that his Christmas would be ruined without his beloved pet.
In a heart wrenching letter to Santa, the little boy begged to have his dog again. “Dear Father Christmas,” the sweet child wrote, “I just want one present for Christmas this year, my dog Morse back. I’ve been a very good boy all year. Thank you, Edward aged two and three quarters.”
Edward’s parents posted a picture of the letter on Facebook, asking for the information about Morse to be shared. They hoped that with people from all over the world searching, their son could be reunited with his missing dog. What they didn’t expect was for this image to fall into the hands of someone who could truly make a difference.
When Simon Cowell saw the post, he knew he had to do something to spare this little boy from years of heartache. What he did next was incredible: he offered a 10,000 pound reward to anyone who could bring Morse back. This was more than Edward’s parents had hoped for, and they waited anxiously for their dog to be returned.
When Christmas came and went, it seemed that all hope was lost. Soon after, however, a miracle happened. A man who lived near the Latters saw a strange dog. He was covered in mud and all alone. The man got in contact with the family and told them about this lonely dog.
As luck would have it, that dog was Morse! He was reunited with his family at last. Edward could not have been more thrilled.
“We instantly broke down in tears,” Edward’s father, Richard, explained. “I was delirious for a few seconds. It was absolutely wonderful; we were just hugging each other, hugging Edward, and hugging the dog.”
This touching moment would not have been possible had it not been for the publicity created by Simon’s generous offer. He helped to bring the beloved dog home, proving that underneath his tough exterior is a heart made of solid gold.
