It’s not a myth, it’s not a legend or a fairy tale trope, it’s absolutely true: Daddy’s love their daughters. And there’s nothing scarier for Dad’s than that moment when their daughters have grown up and they start to explore relationships other than the one with Dad. But what happens when the daughter hasn’t grown up yet, and she’s only barely out of diapers. Hasn’t someone already come up with some rules for this?

Daddy, he’s not just a friend

Daddy Jeff is enjoying breakfast with his adorable little daughter, she must be three or four years old. And she’s adamant that the boy they are talking about is not a friend like Dad insists. But that he’s her boyfriend, a much more complicated relationship that daddy is not prepared for. They banter back and forth in a funny exchange that leads to Dad asking if she loves him. Her answer crumbles her father, which causes Mom and Daughter to snicker.

Dad’s cringe thinking about it. They want the best for their daughters and they want to protect them from all the dangerous things that the world has to offer them. Even if they succumb to the idea that their daughters will “date” someone, they surely don’t want them to fall in love. Jeff is not taking this so well.

But it’s also quite funny to watch these Dad’s wiggle when you aren’t the one that’s squirming.

8 Simple Rules

There is a known guidebook for dads, that is if you can consider a classic sitcom as good guidebook material. It’s the John Ritter, Katey Sagal, and Kaley Cuoco starring ABC sitcom, “8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.” The successful show ran in the mid-2000s, before the untimely loss of its star John Ritter.

The Guidebook

Ritter starred as the Dad who, along with his wife Sagal, are raising their two teenage daughters. Ritter’s character has come up with eight rules that he tries to enforce as his daughters explore the teenage dating scene. Obvious hilarity ensues.

If ya don’t like ’em…

Some of the rules make for some seriously funny situations on the show. Made all the more funny when they really cramp their daughter’s ideas about dating.

Rules like:

“Use your hands on my daughter and you’ll lose them after.”

“Bring her home late, there’s no next date.”

“Dates must be in crowded public places. You want romance? Read a book.”

Kaley Cuoco had a breakout performance as Bridget Hennessey. Cuoco went on to star as Penny in the long-running and popular sitcom, “Big Bang Theory.”

Jeff’s video with his daughter sums up the situational comedy in “8 Simple Rules.” Daddy tries so hard to convince daughter she can’t have these feelings and daughter tries so hard to convince daddy that she does. And there’s nothing he can do about it, but boy does he try.

“It’s okay dad, her boyfriend has a toy Ferrari.”

“Meanwhile boyfriend is busy eating sand.”

“Meanwhile boyfriend trying to figure out how to get out of the diapers.”

If you’re a dad, a daughter, or anyone who understands this father’s pain, then this video is for you. The video might crack you up, or send you into a squirming tizzy, depending on your own personal situation. It might be fun to test it out on someone you know and see how they react.
