When somebody mentions cancer, there is almost always a reaction. Sometimes we get stories of friends or family members who made it out but not without a fight. Sometimes tears flow.
Other times, we ball up our fists and get angry at the disease. No matter how you spin it, everybody’s got an opinion about it.
Meet Dianna
Enter Dianna, who is a young mom. Like most mothers, she presumably deals with all the normal stresses of parenthood – lost soccer cleats, toys strewn about the yard and in the kitchen, and picky eaters giving their dinner to the puppy under the table.
But she’s also battling something much worse, and that is Stage IV Hodgkins Lymphoma. She’s been battling it since Christmas Eve 2013. Stage IV Hodgkins Lymphoma, according to WebMD, is when the cancer has spread “to one or more organs outside of the lymphatic system such as the bone marrow or liver.”
And McKenna
It is clear to see that Dianna is fighting her hardest against this horrible illness. But there is a ray of sunshine that will pull her through. It comes in the form of her beautiful daughter, McKenna.
We noticed them both when McKenna sang to her mom to make her feel better and performed a touching version of “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” by country star Martina McBride.
A beautiful performance
The scene appears to be a celebration or party. There are balloons and streamers set up, as well as tables and chairs with purple tablecloths. Bystanders and Dianna look on as McKenna picks up the microphone like a natural singer. The music starts and so does the magic.
“You let go, I hold on,”
croons McKenna. Dianna wipes her eyes with tissues, taking in every moment of the performance by her daughter. The crowd watches with smiles on their faces.
“Just take my hand…I’m gonna love you through it.”
Her tiny child’s voice makes it even more touching and beautiful. The love between the two, this mother and child, is so evident.
The performance ends with Dianna reaching out for a big hug. McKenna runs over, embracing her mom. You can even sense the love through the computer screen!
Everyone took note
This video, which was probably nothing more than a heartfelt home video, was noticed by Ellen Degeneres, the famous talk-show host. She posted it to her Facebook page, and to her YouTube channel, EllenTube. Dianna’s mother, Dee actually commented on the post, and this led to something amazing happening: an invite to Ellen Degeneres’ show!
The video of Dianna and Dee on the show is a tear-jerker. Dianna is very strong as Ellen speaks to her but knowing what she is going through moves you to tears. Soon, Ellen drops the news that McKenna will be singing to Dianna, but this time with a very special guest.
Another amazing performance
You guessed it! Martina McBride herself comes out, holding hands with McKenna. The two deliver a performance that makes both Dianna and Dee cry with joy. McKenna doesn’t even flinch at the crowd – she just holds the mic and sings in her adorable way.
Yes, these videos will certainly make you cry, but they are worth the watch for all the love that they contain. We know that with positivity and smiles, and many hugs from McKenna and other family and friends, Dianna will kick this cancer right in the butt and live a long, happy life.
