Most seizures can happen at any time without warning that is why people who experience this condition shouldn’t only be mentally prepared, they also have to be ready each time it strikes. What if a seizure strikes at the wrong place at the wrong time?
Michelle Mixon, a driver at Milwaukee County Transit System was in her usual daily routine – driving her bus and as she stops at a red light near 76th and Mill, she was shocked to hear a frightening scream.
“My Mommy! Mommy! My Mommy”,
a 6-year old little girl was crying and screaming.
This poor child was hysterical and frightened. Immediately, Michelle picked up the little girl and put her in her chair asking what happened.
The little girl was clearly scared and Michelle, as a mother and grandmother, knew that this child needs her. She hugged her tight and assured her that it will be okay. Then, the little girl explained that her mommy had a seizure and that she was scared.
Based on the video that RideMCTS shared last Tuesday of January 30, 2018, the child’s mother passed out in front of the bus as they were about to cross the street. The little girl didn’t waste any time and ran up to the bus to get help.
“She was hysterical. My heart goes out to her because I don’t know how many times she has seen her mom go through this, but I know it was devastating for me to see for the first time. I just pray that she’s well,”
Mixon said in her interview with WISN-TV
The little girl was so frightened that’s why Michelle embraced her tightly as they wait for the paramedics to arrive.
We can’t imagine how a young girl would handle a situation like this. At a very young age, she was able to get help for her mother who needs medical attention. Many comments have stated that the mother did a good job teaching her daughter what to do in case of this emergency situation.
While waiting, some kind strangers also went to the woman who was lying unconscious in the cold street to help. This one-man even removed his jacket to cover and warm up the little girl’s mother.
People commended this man who removed his jacket and all the other people who checked and were concerned about the woman. Finally, the ambulance came and the little girl’s mom was safely brought to the hospital.
Michelle has been a bus driver for 21 years and this is most definitely one of the most memorable experiences she has ever had.
Many expressed their gratitude for this bus driver who didn’t just comfort this little girl but stayed with her until she and her mom were okay. Comments poured in expressing how brave this little girl was for being able to ask for help and for all good people who aided the woman as well.
“People who experience seizures know the storm may come. Still, they embrace each day as if it will not.” – unknown
