Two lions were minding their own business trying to cross a river in Botswanan river when a mean old crocodile came up and tried to murder them. The attack was captured on video by some onlookers who had to watch the whole ordeal in suspense.
The video, which was filmed at the Wilderness Safaris’ King’s Pool Camp, shows two lions swimming through the Linyanti river when the crocodile swoops in to cause some trouble.
“We found them [the lions] by the Linyanti river between Botswana and Namibia, and watched them drinking water,” says the unknown person who posted the video.
The onlookers thought the lions would retreat, but the younger lion ventured back into the water.
“Our guide saw a crocodile on the right and we saw the older one look at the croc,” she said. “Again we thought they would turn back but the younger one kept going in deeper. “
They attempted to peacefully cross the river when the crocodile attacks.
“As they swim across the crocodile speeds up and while we all watched with our hearts in our mouths, the younger lion was attacked by the crocodile,” the poster said.
That’s when the older lion attacked the crocodile to save his younger brother before he plunged under water.
“The younger one started swimming back and we thought the older one was gone, but then we saw him pull himself into the reeds – incredibly they both survived with no injuries!” she wrote.
One of the cats makes it to the other side of the river, while the other cat returns to the shore from where they originally came from.
“The older brother was stuck on the Namibian side of the river for the rest of the day, while the younger one waited for a while, before finding a young lioness and mating with her,” the poster wrote.
Apparently, the onlookers got even more of a show after that.
“When the older brother came back later in the day, instead of challenging his younger brother for the lioness as would be expected, he waited nearby. An amazing wilderness experience we were privileged to observe and an incredible older brother!”
