When 11-year-olds Charlie and Libby stepped to the stage on Britain’s Got Talent recently, no one had any idea what to expect.
It’s not often that kids their age make it to the big stage in front of the judges, so just by virtue of them being there, everyone knew that their talent pretty much had to be something special. How special was yet to be determined.
Although based upon the matching green sequined outfits they were wearing, most people in the audience rightly guessed that they were going to do some sort of dance routine.
At first glance, one might also have suspected that the two were twins, but the pair confirmed to judges that no, they are not in fact related. They are, however, “best friends”, they both told judges at the exact same time. It was a super cute moment.
The judges laughed and still appeared somewhat skeptical.
After they queued the music is when the real fun started though.
Charlie and Libby both began center-stage bowed down in a child’s pose yoga position. Suddenly, they both unfolded themselves in a beautiful synchronized manner. Then effortlessly danced and rolled their way across the stage in what appeared as though one part ballet, one part gymnastics, and one part miming.
Along with the smooth dance moves, the pair’s motions and gestures told a story that slowly came to life as the performance continued.
Charlie lovingly lifted Libby off the ground and spun her around full circle.
Then he placed his hands over her heart in correspondence with the lyrics of the background music. The song they chose for the performance was “Heart Beats Fast” by Christina Perri. It is a beautiful melody that was originally composed as part of the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga.
The pair’s moves were both powerful and romantic, matching the music perfectly.
At one point, Libby even sprints across the stage and leaps into Charlie’s arms. It makes you wonder if there is something more to the duo’s background story that they aren’t telling us. Watching the amount of emotion they put into their performance that day, it is hard to believe that they are really only “best friends”.
Maybe they haven’t realized it yet, but there is definitely a spark there. One day when they are both older, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if they start dating.
The judges noticed the pair’s chemistry too.
“Well done,” said Simon Cowell as the audience applauded.
Although, in classic Simon form, he did have to clarify that he normally dislikes performances like theirs.
“You know, I don’t love this kind of dancing. I have got to be honest with you, but I thought your choice of song, your obvious friendship, sense of fun… it was actually one of my favorite dance performances,” said Simon.
Simon wasn’t the only one who was impressed, however.
It seems Alesha Dixon felt the same way that Simon did about their epic dance routine.
“You two have just got it. You weren’t a step out of place. I mean, it was just perfect. I was literally looking for a fault and I couldn’t find one,” said Alesha.
Charlie and Libby couldn’t help but smile at the judges’ kind words. They were so happy.
Ultimately, things got even better for the duo too.
The judges gave them four “yes’s” sending them on to the next round of the competition.
We have to say, they definitely deserved it and we look forward to seeing more of them as time goes on. This might be our favorite dance routine so far from this year’s season.
