Traveling allows us to experience a lot of new things. We get to meet people with different cultures, discover new things, taste unique dishes, and de-stress. Traveling to other places also gives us the chance to establish friendship.
One man decided to visit West Iceland.
There, he was accommodated by really kind and humble hosts. They live in a horse farm with three kids and tons of sheep.
After leaving their farm and reaching the country’s capital Reykjavik, he decided to send a letter to his host. He wanted to sincerely thank them for taking good care of him.
Unfortunately, he had a problem with the letter.
He didn’t know the exact address of his hosts. It was a good thing that he has a really great memory. So instead of writing his hosts’ exact address, he drew a map. He also wrote additional information that can help the local postal service locate his hosts’ farm.
On the envelope, he wrote:
Country: Iceland.
City: Búðardalur.
Name: A horse farm with an Icelandic/Danish couple and three kids and a lot of sheep!
Near the bottom, he also made sure to include details on where the female host works.
“The Danish woman works in a supermarket in Búðardalur.”
Surprisingly, the letter made it!
Despite having incomplete postal information, the man’s hosts were able to receive the letter. It must have been really touching for them.
Rebecca Cathrine Kaadu Ostenfeld was surprised when a postman handed the letter to her. Just looking at the envelope, you could see that the sender really wanted the letter to reach its recipient even though there’s no exact address.
Rebecca’s farm was marked with a glaring red dot.
The success of that letter’s journey must be attributed to the family’s farm. It’s quite well-known in the area by both tourists and locals.
The farm is actually tourist attraction located in Hvammsveit, West Iceland. Tourists visit the mini-zoo to pet the family’s horses, sheep, goats, pigs, and other farm animals.
The family’s farm actually has a Facebook page. However, if you click on its link, you’ll be redirected to the middle of a lake. This is probably one of the reasons why the man had a hard time finding the right postal address.
It was a good thing that the local postal service was very familiar with their area.
Otherwise, they couldn’t have figured out exactly which place or farm the man was referring to. Plus, they were kind, too.
Most people will just ignore the letter after seeing that it doesn’t have a proper postal address. The postal service really took the time and made the effort to deliver the letter to the family.
Now, the family is receiving more post cards with the same drawing!
After the story went viral, more and more people are sending cards to the family with the same map. It’s really interesting, considering that those letters come from different parts of the world. It’s truly an exciting experience for the family.
