So you think you know your way around the kitchen? Maybe so, but there is always ways to improve.
Here are our favorite kitchen hacks that can save you time, money, and aggravation.
Rapid Ripening
Toss your banana or peaches in a paper bag to help them ripen faster. The bag will help to concentrate ethylene gas which will make it ripen faster.
Mango Peel
Use the side of a glass to perfectly peel a mango.
Easy Use Chopsticks
Take a plastic soda bottle cap and cut two holes into its lip on one side and a rounded rectangle on the opposite side. Then, push two chopsticks through the holes of the cap.
This method will make your chopsticks easier to use.
Keep Tomatoes Fresh
You can keep your tomatoes fresher longer by storing them with the stem end down. This prevents air from getting into the area that was once attached to the fine.
Your tomatoes will also last longer at room temperature rather than in the refrigerator.
Cut Cherry Tomatoes With Ease
Place your cherry tomatoes between two plates and run a sharp knife in between the two plates. This will cut the tomatoes in two with ease.
Easy French Fries
Use an apple slicer on a potato to make fry-sized potato wedges.
Finger Guard
Slice the top of a plastic bottle off and cut out a circular piece that could cover your fingers.
Use a burning tool to burn a hole on either side of the piece of plastic. Tie a stretchy piece of string to the hold and slide your fingers between the string.
Your finger guard will protect your fingers when you cut foods.
Prevent Boil Over
Place a wooden spoon over a boiling pot to prevent it from boiling over.
Keep Chips Fresh
Fold a potato chip bag in a triangular shape then roll up the bottom half of the bag. Flip your bag over and start rolling it in the opposite direction. This will keep your chips fresh and will prevent them from going stale.
Prevent Bacon Splash
Add a little bit of water to your frying pan when cooking bacon to prevent the oil from splashing and burning you.
Separate Egg Yolks
Squeeze a plastic bottle and hold it over an egg yolk. When you release the bottle it will suck up the egg yolk.
Pepper Eggs
Slice up some pepper rings and pour an egg into it to create a fun shape and delicious breakfast.
Crystal Clear Ice Cubes
Boil your water before you pour it into your ice cube tray to freeze. They will come out crystal clear this way.
Skim Fat
You can easily skim the fat off of stews and sauces by wrapping an ice cube in a paper towel and running along the top of your liquid. The ice cube will solidify the fat so you can scoop it out with a spoon.
