The Voice USA is on its 16th season in 2019. This year judges include John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine. These seasoned judges may have believed they had seen it all. That is, until one young woman proved them all wrong. The anticipation of each blind audition is almost more than the judges can handle. This time, curiosity got the best of two particular judges.
A young lady named Kim Cherry performed her rendition of โNo Scrubsโ by TLC in February 2019. The song wasnโt the most conventional song to be performed on The Voice. In fact, it could have very well gone very wrong. Lucky for this star though, sheโs about as talented as they come.
Kim Cherryโs parents, siblings, and boyfriend have always been by her side, including during her audition. After graduating high school, Kim joined the esteemed Berklee College of Music and focused on the saxophone and continued playing throughout her time at College. When Kim was 24 years old, she decided singing was her forte. Rightfully so, if you ask us.
From then on, she devoted her life to singing and performing. In 2016, she followed her heart by starting cover band โLegends of Summerโ, dedicated to playing โ90s hip-hop, rap, and R&B. The band performed at parties, weddings, and more. But everything changed this year when Kim auditioned.
The incredibly talented young woman wowed all four judges during her blind audition. But the infamous Kelly Clarkson was the first to turn her chair. The look on Kellyโs face was priceless! She was not only impressed by the voice, but shocked by the sweet girlโs personality.
Soon after, Blake turned his! While all judgesโ comments were interesting, perhaps the most memorable of all was John Legendโs first utterance when he turned his chair around. โSheโs white!โ He was shocked.
Unfortunately for Adam and John, they didnโt turn their chair around in time, leaving Kim Cherry two mentors to choose from. But who did she choose? Country boy Blake or pop/rock legend Kelly?
While the choice was tough for Kim, with a little coaxing from a certain judge, she made her decision. In the end, Kim went with country star Blake Legend, who jokingly refers to himself as a โrap legend.โ
