โ€œInside Editionโ€โ€ฆ the title makes it sound like a show that delves into the important stories of our day.

They say claim to feature โ€œuplifting news, investigationsโ€ as well as โ€œnews and politics.โ€

Youโ€™d think โ€ televisionโ€™s longest-running, top-rated, and most-honored syndicated newsmagazineโ€ would feature deep investigations into things that need changing in our world like climate change, income inequality, and poverty.

However, one of itโ€™s more recent videos is titled โ€œKid Hides From Cops in Trash Can Full of Baby Diapers.โ€

Youโ€™d think a show with such power and influence would delve into the important discussion of why such a young child in America would find himself having to steal at all and run from the police.

It seems like it would be a good opportunity to discuss the 15 million children, or 21 percent of all children in the U.S., who live in poverty. Or discuss topics like what emotional issue cause children to steal and how they can be curbed.

However, the โ€œnewsโ€ outlet took a different route with this story. It started with โ€œCatch that kid!โ€

They told a lighthearted story about a child thief who hid in a trash can of hot diapers for his crimes.

โ€œA young man in Oregon jumped into a trash can in a last-ditch effort to hide from police and it was all captured on a neighborโ€™s home security camera,โ€ the videoโ€™s caption reads.

โ€œIn the video, the kid, fleeing a cop, leaps into the garbage, pulling the lid over himself. It was a scorching 90 degrees outside, but the kid sat in the trash can for 30 minutes, at which point he peaked out and hopped from the can once the coast was clear. At first, he casually walked away, then he took off.โ€

An Oregon homeowner captured the footage on his home security camera and told Inside Edition that he thought the child was playing hide-and-seek at first.

โ€œI saw him jump out and I go โ€œThatโ€™s a really gross spot to play hide and seekโ€™ because thatโ€™s what I thought was going on,โ€ the homeowner said.

But after watching the tape a little while longer he saw a police officer walk right by the trash can.

โ€œWhich way did that kid run,โ€ the panting officer asked.

The officer then walks off in another direction. The 14-year-old then waited in the trash can filled with diapers and used kitty litter for about a half-hour after that.

โ€œYou can smell it when itโ€™s hot and full like that. You walk by 10-feet away and you can get a little whiff of it,โ€ the homeowner said.

The kid eventually jumped out and fled.

Inside Edition said that he was caught about an hour later for what the showโ€™s announcer said in an accusatory and stern manner was theft.

People on YouTube, actual Americans, were a lot more forgiving than Inside Edition.

โ€œI wouldโ€™ve gave that kid a ice cream if I knew he hid in literal feces for 30 minutes in hot weather and that smell must of sucked hard,โ€ one person said.

โ€œHonestly that has to be the coolest kid ever .. regardless of what he did wrong you have to admit that was a pretty nice move,โ€ said another.

Hopefully, the police officers were just as forgiving as these YouTubers and helped this boy get on the right track and get him all the things that he needs so he doesnโ€™t have to steal anymore.
