When Kevin Skinner walked on stage to audition for America’s Got Talent back in 2010, he was immediately mocked and laughed at by the judges.
Skinner was a southern man with a classic accent. He proclaimed himself as a former “chicken catcher” and lacked formal music training. In fact, he taught himself how to play the guitar by listening to country stars such as Garth Brooks and others.
After hearing this, one judge, Sharon Osbourne, called Skinner a ‘hillbilly’ and effectively wrote him off. Another judge, Piers Morgan, urged Skinner to start his act in an effort to save himself from the relentless teasing by the audience and other judges.

Within seconds of starting his song, the judges were left absolutely speechless. Skinner sang an emotional and passionate cover of “If Tomorrow Never Comes” by Garth Brooks, and it’s clear that Skinner is no joke. He’s clearly talented and has the potential for greatness.
Skinner went on to win the competition, and it was true underdog story and dream come true for this “chicken catcher.”
