For musicians going on tour is one of the biggest accomplishments and emotional feats of their musical careers. Getting to stop in cities all over the world and share their music with anyone and everyone who comes to listen and appreciate. However, going on tour can be a heavy mixture of fun and stress at times. Especially when it comes to the final stops of the tour which can be quite emotional for the artist. Whether it is emotional due to it being the end of the tour or in Kelly Clarkson’s case may be a sweet surprise from her husband while she is singing her heart out on stage. You might want to grab a tissue!
The surprise switch up!
When Kelly Clarkson made her last stop in Greenville, South Carolina on her Meaning of Life tour her husband decided he was going to sneak onstage midsong without her knowing as she sang a song she wrote about him.
Her husband plans to surprise her during an emotional song Clarkson wrote about him.
Kelly starts singing the song “Piece by Piece” which she wrote about her husband’s love for their daughter Rive Rose as she compares it to the lack of care and love from her own father. Her husband, Brandon Blackstock, is the stepson of Reba McEntire and the music manager of Blake Shelton. Blackstock and Clarkson have two children together, River and Remington, and married in October of 2013.
As she goes through her song the lyrics describe the contrast of the two relationships and simply pours her heart out to her audience.
As she then goes into the chorus she describes the difference between the relationship with her father compared to her husband with their daughter. She sings,
“But piece by piece, he collected me
Up off the ground, where you abandoned things and
Piece by piece he filled the holes that you burned in me
Six years old and you know, he never walks away
He never asks for money, he takes care of me
He loves me
Piece by piece, he restored my faith
That a man can be kind and a father could stay”
The audience almost gives away the surprise with their excitement and cheers!
Just as Kelly is midway through her emotional song her husband makes his quiet entrance onstage behind her. But the crowd almost gives it away by cheering so loud at the sight of him. However, Kelly doesn’t realize just yet.
As she continues to pour her heart out to the audience she closes her eyes which allows the two guitarists to remain unnoticed as they go to make the switch.
He stands in her blindside as she continues to sing to make sure she doesn’t spot him just yet.
Turning around to the big surprise!
Just as the two guitarists make the switch Kelly turns around to the sweetest surprise, her husband playing the guitar to the song she wrote about him.
Clarkson becomes flooded with emotions at the sight of her husband.
She tries to keep singing but she is so overwhelmed with emotions that she has to pause singing for a moment. Her husband just smiles and looks on lovingly.
The mixture of the emotions almost seems to be too much for her as she tries to regain composure.
She tries to begin again but cannot seem to stop giggling and crying! She discusses this very moment with A Minute & A Glass of Wine on Facebook Live web series and she states,
“My husband totally surprised me, like faux-playing the guitar on ‘Piece By Piece,’ and I lost my mind in the tent back there…It’s totally fine. Get your crap together. Anyway, it was really sweet.”
In between her giggles, she lets those who don’t know who the surprise guest actually is.
She makes her best effort to try and keep singing but can’t help but to giggle so she lets the audience know who the surprise guest behind her is by stating,
“That’s my husband!”
Pushing through the tears and laughter, piece by piece.
But she pushes through all the laughter and tears as the song finally comes to an end. One youtube user, tomfeb1818, shared their thoughts in the comments about how rare this type of love is these days writing,
“Her reaction was so cute and genuine. That’s a relationship with pure love. Seems like such a rare thing these days”
Love heals all wounds.
As she finishes the song she gets closer and closer to her husband placing her arm around him with a big smile on her face. Another youtube user, Helene Reinicke, comments her admiration for this video and the song,
“I really love that this video reminded me that her song is not only about how bad her father was but also about how there are still good people in the world that have the ability to give love to heal the wounds!!”
The crowd goes wild as the couple shares a loving smooch!
Kelly then gives her husband a loving kiss and the crowd screams with excitement.
She finishes the song with the sweetest embrace with her husband on stage.
She then nuzzles her head into his shoulder taking in this very sweet moment.
As the final stops of tour can already be emotional, the emotions for Kelly at this moment were increased by the intensity of the song and then her husband pulled off the sweetest surprise during a song written about him. Her husband definitely pulled off a successful surprise that is a tear-jerker for those who watch! Such a truly touching and beautiful moment to appreciate.
