When a husband and wife were kayaking off the coast of Gran Canaria, Spain they saw something they had never seen before. They were kayaking near an area where they often fish when the wife spotted a living creature in the distance that seemed to be acting strangely.
They quickly paddled over to the animal to see what was going on and found a turtle in distress. The couple carefully approached the turtle to help.
The poor little turtle was caught up in a fishing net that was tightly wound around his body.
The yellow and brown turtle was struggling to stay afloat and was flapping his arms while swimming slowly. He seemed as if he was trying to conserve his energy while still continuing to swim. You could tell he knew he was in trouble.
The couple slowly paddled over to the turtle to assess the situation. When they got close enough, the husband quickly pulled the foot-long turtle out of the water. He then began to work on cutting the turtle from the net, while his wife caught the entire thing on video.
The poor turtle looked nervous and briskly flapped his arms around as the husband worked on freeing him from the net, and it was a rather large net that he got himself tangled in.
After working on the turtle for a few minutes, he was finally free. You could see a look of relief spread over the turtle’s face as the net was slipped off of him. The husband took a closer look at the turtle’s neck to make sure he got all the scraps of net away and that he didn’t have any other injuries.
The turtle seemed to be OK, so the husband pulled up his shell and planted a big old kiss on the turtle’s head. The turtle didn’t seem to mind and looked infinitely happier than he did when the husband first scooped him up.
It was a beautiful embrace between friends.
The husband grabbed the turtle up and held him up for the camera. The turtle actually seemed like he was waving to his friends in the camera.
The husband then placed him back into the sea and sent him back on his way. The turtle quickly swam away and disappeared under the dark blue water. The couple was pleased with their efforts and the turtle seemed thankful.
