Talent shows have been a hugely popular part of TV programming all over the world in recent years, shining the spotlight on seemingly regular members of the public and seeing what they can do and what secret talents they might be hiding. These shows have helped to launch the careers of some very successful performers and have shown just what can happen when people pursue their dreams. They’ve given us a glimpse at some wonderful singers, dancers, and other performers, as well as a few strange ones too.
One of the oddest performers ever to appear on America’s Got Talent was, without a doubt, this man.
Known only as Tape Face, the man walked out on stage with a piece of black tape pasted across his mouth and a wide-eyed stare.
The audience members and judges were, naturally, quite confused by the appearance of Tape Face. They were used to seeing pretty normal-looking people step out on the stage, and the sight of a guy with eyeliner and tape was definitely the last thing they were expecting.
Just like at the start of any other audition, the judges asked Tape Face a few questions to try and learn a little more about him and what he was going to be doing on the stage.
Obviously, the tape across his lips made it rather difficult for Tape Face to respond to any of those questions, and the judges eventually gave up. Meanwhile, audience members were looking at each other with worried and confused expressions.
Then, it was time for Tape Face’s act to begin. But what would he do? It was clear that the act couldn’t really include any kind of speaking or singing, or could it?
First, Tape Face revealed a little bag he’d been carrying behind his back and opened it up, pulling out a pair of oven mitts, decorated with little eyes to look like faces, and put them on his hands.
Then, as some music started to play, the real nature of Tape Face’s hilarious performance began to be revealed.
He made his little mitt puppets sing a love song to one another, much to the delight and amusement of the audience and the judges.
Everyone all around the room was laughing and cheering within seconds of Tape Face and his puppets starting their little routine.
Even Simon, who is usually so hard to please, started to smile.
But the show didn’t end there!
Tape Face went back to his bag and then pulled out what seemed to be a red dress. He draped it over himself to look like he was closely holding some kind of headless lady as the song ‘Lady in Red’ began to play.
Once again, the audience laughed and laughed as Tape Face danced around the stage, romantically cradling a red dress and even getting a little inappropriate with his hands…
His audition was certainly a strange one, but it was also undeniably hilarious, and he went on to make several other appearances on the show, which you can view below.
