Ice skating is one of the most elegant, majestic art forms on this planet, and it’s certainly not something that anyone could master!
If you’ve ever taken to the ice yourself, you’ll know just how difficult it is to stay upright, let alone attempt to stand on one leg or make a 360 turn.
But professional ice skaters make moving on the ice look easy.
They don’t just skate in straight lines, either – they jump, spin and even skate backward, pulling off stunts that would end disastrously for most of us.
Elena Radionova is one of the most celebrated ice skaters of this decade.
In 2016, she took part in All That Skate, showcasing a routine that was so mind-blowingly impressive, it’s still talked about today.
She performed as a “schoolgirl gone bad”, in a white blouse, red tie, and a red plaid skirt to match, with her hair pulled back into a ponytail.
It’s a refreshingly different attire to the elegant costumes we usually associate with ice skating performances.
Her live audience couldn’t believe the talent they were witnessing, and when a video of Elena’s performance was uploaded online, it got its fair share of online attention, too.
The performance has a staggering 26 million views and counting on YouTube. That’s more views than most people could hope for in a lifetime!
Elena’s skating show is accompanied by Fifth Harmony’s “Worth It”, which is perfect for this routine.
She’s disguising her outfit when she first steps onto the ice, donning tan trench coat, complete with a red-colored hat and a schoolgirl backpack.
With oversized headphones over her ears, she looks like any other typical teenager on her way home from school.
When the music starts, Elena pretends she’s listening to it through her headphones, bobbing her head from side to side while she skates across the stage.
It’s impossible to predict what sort of performance we’re in for when a school bell rings and Elena comes to a stop.
But when she skates to the center of the ring, whips off her coat and strikes a pose, we know we’re in for a treat.
This is not the sort of delicate, elegant performance that we’re used to seeing on ice. Elena is sassy, confident, and a little bit rebellious in her schoolgirl persona.
She makes her way across the ice, somehow managing to wiggle her hips and strike all the sassy poses in the book while she’s at it.
She might be dancing on stage for all the difference it makes – it’s as if there’s no slippery ice beneath her feet.
As well as giving us schoolgirl vibes, Elena throws in some incredible jumps and spins – showing that she can perform as well as act!
She keeps up her high-energy persona throughout her routine, making every one of her moves look simple, despite how much practice we know they must have taken to perfect.
A special thing about Elena’s routine is that she takes the time to acknowledge the crowd, staring straight at them while she moves. This only makes people love her more!
There’s no denying that Elena has the whole package, so it makes sense that she’s one of the best skaters in the world.
