Has anyone had the pleasure of petting a newborn horse? Those long legs make up most of their personality at that age, and it’s quite amazing to see how quickly they gain confidence on those legs. They prance around, looking just adorable. And if you’ve ever been around a growing foal you will know how protective its mother can be. This video shows what great care and protection a mother has for her young.
Take a trip down to the farm and see what happens when a foal cries for her mother.
The Dad recording this video has created a wonderful collection of YouTube videos showing what he does for a living. He takes care of an 18th Century estate that is complete with all the barnyard animals you can imagine running around a down-home farm. He’s got videos of hatchling chickens, newborn cows, bulls, and a few dogs and cats as well. In this video, he quickly pulled out his phone and recorded when a foal came out of the stables to see his wife and daughters.
A Hands-on Approach
As he approaches, his wife and daughters are getting cozy with the new addition to the stable. They said the little one came out to see who these folks were. Curiosity created a wonderful moment, bringing this lanky foal out to meet the Mom and her daughters. That’s the kind of education you want for your kids, hands-on and in person.
Learning by Doing
Great textbooks help, but actually having the lesson right in front of you is a thousand percent better. There’s no better way to learn about nature, animal husbandry, and natural horsemanship than a visit to a working farm to see the animals up close and personal.
Aristotle wrote, “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”
Eleven Days Old
As Dad walks up slow and careful not to scare the little one away, Mom says the foal is eleven days old. And as soon as he gets close the little one lets out a cry for her mommy.
Mommy Came Running
That’s when the mother is heard running up. The family makes sure to give the mom a wide berth, as they know she’s barreling in with protection on her mind.
Never Fear, Mom is Here!
The little feller’s mom runs up and Dad lets her know everything was peachy keen. Mom hustles her little foal into the stable and the moment passes. The family visit to the stables will be memorable. Maybe these girls will grow up to raise animals on a farm or become veterinarians, or scientists. They might go on to cure diseases or fight the good fight in Congress. The possibilities are endless when you offer your child a hands-on education.
YouTubers have some funny thoughts on what the conversation was between Momma horse and baby foal.
“Mom they were touching me!”
—
“Baby: MOMMA! – Mom: OH HELL NO YOU DID NOT TOUCH MY BABY!”
—
“Mom: THERE you are! If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times – No playing in the barn by yourself! You wait ’til I tell your father.”
