April Meadow, 43, Hector Jesso 63, and Michael Green 36, have probably seen a lot of weird things while dumpster diving in New Mexico.

But the craziest thing theyโ€™ve ever found was a sweet newborn baby.

And thank God they did because they saved that babyโ€™s life. The trio was sifting through the trash behind a casino in Hobbs, Mexico when they thought they heard a cat or puppy whimpering.

Green then jumped in to dig through all the garbage until he found the bag where the sound was coming from.

โ€œI just started going through the trash โ€“ it was instinct. Just trying to get to [the bag]. I didnโ€™t even look in the bag โ€“ I was thinking a dog or a cat or something, but I didnโ€™t want to see it all bloody you know. Sometimes, I get grossed out,โ€ he told the Daily Mail.

Meadow took charge and opened the bag and was shocked to see a little baby inside.

โ€œItโ€™s f**king baby!โ€ she screamed. โ€œHe was quiet. He was just laying there in a red towel.โ€

She immediately pulled the child out of the bag and started to cradle the child who she said was โ€œice cold.โ€ They jumped into the warm car and wrapped the baby up in a jacket.

In the meantime, Green called 911. EMTs and police arrived within five minutes.

He said it was โ€œpure luckโ€ that they happened to search that dumpster.

โ€œIt gives me goosebumps. I donโ€™t ever want to see anything like that ever again,โ€ Meadow said. โ€œI thought, โ€˜that baby ainโ€™t going to stay in a f**king trash sack, itโ€™s going with meโ€™. That blood, that ladyโ€™s blood โ€“ I didnโ€™t care, I just wanted to hold the baby.โ€

The three were applauded for their quick thinking and saving the child.

Greenโ€™s cousin also set up a GoFundMe to help raise money to help him get a home since he is homeless.

Police later determined that the child had been in the dumpster for about five hours in 36-degree weather.

They say the babyโ€™s mother, 18-year-old Alexis Avila wrapped the child in a bloody towel, tossed him inside two garbage bags, and dumped the baby in the trash before driving away in her Volkswagon Jetta.

His umbilical cord was still attached.

The incident was caught on surveillance video and is disturbing to watch. Avila reportedly told police that she didnโ€™t know she was pregnant and only realized when she started having abdominal pain right before she gave birth.

She said she then panicked and tossed the baby into the trash. Avila has been criticized for not dropping the child off at a designated safe where parents avoid criminal penalties for dropping off children.

All 50 states have safe haven laws.

Now Avila is facing charges of attempted murder and child abuse. The baby was taken to the hospital and is now under the care of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Family Department.

The child was named Saul after his 16-year-old father.

The teenโ€™s grandfather is seeking custody of the child.

Fox News 10 reported that Avilaโ€™s mom, Martha Avila, told the police that she forbid her daughter from seeing her ex, who is the babyโ€™s father because he โ€œbattered her,โ€ a criminal complaint said.

Martha Avila declined to tell her familyโ€™s side of the story but did defend her child, as most parents likely would.

โ€œPeople can preach all they want, they can judge all they want, but we only care about the judgment of one,โ€ she said.

Authorities say an outpouring of support for the child has been seen with many making donations to the New Mexico Children, Youth and Family Department to ensure the childโ€™s wellbeing.
