Losing a friend is one of the hardest things to go through in life. But for this furry dog, losing his life-long friend was especially hard. The two Shih Tzu’s, Harry and George, were inseparable and spent all of their time together. But now that his friend, George, passed away, this one sweet canine, Harry, honors his friend in a special way.
Harry and George, both Shih Tzu’s, were the best of friends.
George was seven years old when his owner, Caitlyn Wynne, brought home his new friend, Harry. The two got along perfectly when they met and were the best of friends. George seemed to bring out the best in Harry, who was always shy. The two would play and get along so well that they even snuggled up and slept together every night in the same bed.
Caitlin Wynne shares that, “Harry couldn’t stand being in a room without him and was very reliant on him.”
When George got sick, Harry was there to comfort him.
At the age of fifteen years old, George became very ill. Harry did what he could to help his ailing friend and even gave up his spot on the bed so that George could have more room to rest. But as George’s health began to fade, Harry knew that something was deeply wrong.
“…the night before we had George put to sleep…Harry was pacing around the room crying. [He] wouldn’t sleep all night, as if he knew something was wrong,” said Cailin in an interview with the Dodo.
The next morning at the vet’s office, Harry was there right by his side to comfort him until the very end.
Now that George passed away, Harry leaves an open spot on the bed.
Harry’s owner, Caitlin, had noticed for a while that Harry had been sleeping on the floor next to the bed, but as she was looking through photos on her phone, Harry’s owner, Caitlin, suddenly realized the reason why. Now a year after George has passed away, Harry has left George’s spot on the bed open. He will not lay down where his friend used to sleep. It is as if the sweet pup is waiting for his friend to come back.
The internet is having a hard time coping too.
The way that Harry cared for George touches the soft spot in your heart. Then when you see the pictures of Harry lying next to the bed, a year after George passed away it just makes you want to bawl your eyes out. The internet is having a hard time coping with the sad sight as well, with over 8,000 Retweets.
Sweet and caring Harry’s affection for his friend never wavered through the very end. Dogs understand a lot more than we give them credit for and they have an unconditional love that we could all take lessons from. Bless these sweet pets!
