Grandson and grandma break out slick moves for dance challenge

June 30th, 2020

As the global pandemic continues to spread and the cases doing a balancing out between decreasing and increasing without any vaccine we’ve all been missing out on quality time with our friends and family.

Especially, missing out on quality time with the elders in our life whether they be your parents, grandparents, or any older family member due to the fact that they are more at risk. School is out, birthdays have passed and even holidays while we are all remaining on the side of caution so we can hopefully soon return back to normal. So in the meantime, we’ve all had to discover new normals, new ways to see each other and keep up with one another as the weeks continue to turn into months.

One of those ways that has quickly become a new normal and way of sharing our new bonding time with family members or friends is the social media app called TikTok. Filled with videos with just about anything and everything to inspire you, share dance routines, make you laugh, or really anything a user can come up with.

One 18-year-old user, Lewis Leigh, decided one day to make a video while he was dropping off groceries to his 86-year-old grandmother, Phyllis Leigh, who is self-isolating to remain healthy during COVID-19.

Lewis decided to try a popular trend with his grandmother that day which is performing synchronized dance routines.

As the video begins, you can see Lewis giving a big smile to the camera while grandma stands at the ready behind him. Before they start he looks back to make sure she is good to go.

Then they repeat the same on the other side. Grandmother keeping up with her grandson and the beat flawlessly.

Then they use both hands to touch opposite shoulders this time. Crossing one time then untucking their hands and touching the shoulders once more.

Then back to the middle to sway their hips back and forth one more time.

Lewis and his grandmother Phyllis showing us that although we may not be able to get to close to one another we can still find new ways to share a laugh with our loved ones.

Furthermore, Lewis showing us that TikTok is providing a new normal and a new way to bond while still having fun in the time being while we remain distanced from those we love who are at a higher risk. All while being able to share it with loved ones and complete strangers in hopes of sharing the joy.

Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
