You can’t say gorillas aren’t interesting creatures.
Gorillas definitely have a track record of doing funny things, like the time they noticed it was raining at a zoo so they walked very slowly, with hesitation, so that they wouldn’t get wet.
Their actions are so funny and almost cartoonish, you really can’t make this stuff up.
Now there is a new clip we’ve recently discovered that exhibits their bizarre behavior and it is so hilarious.
When you look in a mirror, you probably think, “Oh hey, that’s me,” right? You don’t think it is another person, and you definitely aren’t threatened by it in any way.
However, when this one gorilla, in particular, came across his reflection in a mirror, he absolutely lost his mind.
For whatever reason, there were mirrors placed in the wilderness. This Silverback would come across the mirrors, see himself in the reflection, and then freak out because he did not realize he was looking at himself — he thought it was another gorilla.
Thinking he was looking at a predator who was looking to steal his wives, he would run towards his reflection or slap the ground.
He would slap the ground because he thought he was looking at a predator and that was his way of trying to scare them off.
He hits the ground pretty hard too, so we know we would feel pretty scared if we were there in that moment!
This video is a montage of all the times the gorilla got scared of his own reflection and spoiler alert: it is quite a lot. He slaps the ground maybe 10 or 15 times throughout the video.
You think he would learn after so many false alarms, but he never really does! It is actually quite hilarious.

The video, which was uploaded to YouTube in January 2015, has gone viral, amounting to almost 20 million views.
It has gone viral because people can’t believe how funny the animal’s behavior is! It is unbelievable to see something or someone be so afraid and unaware of their own reflection. We almost want to be like, “Hey Gorilla, that’s you! Don’t stress out!”
Of course, with all of the views comes with a ton of comments. They are all pretty hilarious as they make jokes and point out more funny things about the viral clip.
“He carefully avoids looking directly into the mirror so as to not challenge a full on fight,” one person cleverly pointed out in the comment section.
“Man he keeps smacking the ground!!!” another person wrote with a laughing emoji. “All brawn and no brain… I know guys in the gym who do that,” someone else hilariously wrote.
Perhaps this is the funniest comment, though:
“Gorilla: ‘it would appear we are evenly matched.’
Gorilla’s reflection ‘yes it would appear so.'”
