Everyone dreams of waterfront property, but this is not what Daniel and Sandra Grumbacher had in mind. Their Houston, Texas neighborhood looked like a lake after Hurricane Harvey ripped through and dumped about two to three inches of water per hour in the area, according to Globe Today.

At that point, there was only one thing to do. Go outside and survey the damage to formulate a plan on how it could be remedied.

That’s when they saw some movement across the street. A dog was stranded pacing back and forth on a few sandbags that were above the flood waters and surrounding a home.

The poor pooch looked absolutely terrified and confused, along with being totally helpless. Daniel knew he couldn’t just leave the poor dog that way, so he hiked his shorts up and decided he would go get the dog.

“Ok, I’m going to go in and get somebody who left their dog,” he says as someone videos him with a leash in hand about to wade through the murky flood waters.

Daniel walks off into the thigh-high waters flood waters, even though he had no idea if it was safe or what was lurking inside it.

The rain was still pouring down pretty hard but Daniel didn’t seem to mind. He walked all the way across the street where at one point the water goes even higher than his thighs.

He starts to whistle for the dog who goes out of frame but can be heard barking in the background. He leashes the dog and guides him through waters. The water is so high that the dog is forced to swim through it as Daniel holds his head up.

Finally, the dog is able to walk on his own and shakes the water off.

“Whew,” Daniels says smiling, glad to be back on his property.

You could tell the dog was relieved too and that he didn’t have to brave the storm stranded and all alone. Daniel and his wife reportedly took care of the dog for three days until the pup was reunited with his owner.
