A mischievous Golden Retriever puppy named Marshall escaped from his house in Spokane, Washington one day. Once he was outside, the three-month-old puppy seemed to realize he made a mistake and wanted to go back home.
And then, the clever puppy did something that amazed his owners.
It was the middle of the night and his owners didn’t even know that Marshall had gotten out of the house.
No doubt if they had woken up to find him gone, they would have been devastated. Luckily for everyone, Marshall immediately reconsidered and turned back home.
But to everyone’s surprise, he showed that he knew exactly how to get in — he rang the doorbell.
Marshall had never been trained to knock on a door or ring a doorbell, but he figured it out all the same. That’s really saying something about how smart this sweet little boy is!
People everywhere can’t get enough of the clever puppy who figures out how to alert his owners. And they’re quick to share similar stories of their own dogs finding their way home.
“I had a huge fight with my Dalmatian 6km from my [home]…I slapped his bum, and he literally ran away from me,” wrote one YouTube comment. “I was like…i dont have a dog anymore. He was sitting in front of a gate when i got home/ He crossed 3 huge streets and remembered the road…he was 8 months old dog.6 kilometers from home! Dalmatians are so intelligent!”
Eventually, Marshall was able to alert his very confused owners, who let him in.
When they saw the footage on their security system, they thought it was hilarious and uploaded it to share with the internet.
“My dog does a lot of ‘human’ things and without being trained or staged to do so,” wrote another commenter. “So, sit back and enjoy this cute little pup.”
If you’re a little confused when you watch the video, don’t be.
Marshall’s owner, Greg Basel, doesn’t have a traditional doorbell. Instead, he has a Nest security system, which alerts his phone when someone “rings” the doorbell. At least Marshall wasn’t waking the whole house up with incessant ringing!
There’s no telling how he got out of the house, how long he was gone, or what he was doing while on his joy ride.
But it’s every dog owner’s worst nightmare to think of their pup getting loose and going missing just because they can’t find their way back home.
Luckily, he is now back with his family safe and sound.
But thanks to their home security system, they have a hilarious video of Marshall on his one night of freedom that he quickly regretted. He won’t be leaving home again anytime soon, but if he does, at least he knows how to get back in!
Marshall is a clever pup who wouldn’t let a little thing like a door stop from being with his beloved family.
