If you’re a more practical person, tennis shoes are probably your go-to shoe. Even if you are someone who likes to dress up a little more, you definitely have a pair of tennis shoes in your closet. These might seem like a boring choice when it comes to footwear, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Try shaking up your shoe lace style to make your sneakers just as exciting as the rest of your outfit. Here are 15 hacks to help you do the trick.
1. Two Big Bows
Tie your laces into two big bows for extra flair. Run the lace through the bottom holes, and lace it up twice as usual. Next wrap both laces around the first few, tying a bow. Skip a pair of holes, then make a second bow.
2. Twisted Up
Run the lace down one side of the shoe, looping it around each hole. Next make a criss-cross pattern across the center of the shoe. The effect is so cool!
Place the midpoint of the lace between the first and second holes on one side of the shoe. Wrap both open ends around the bottom hole on the other side, then wrap only one lace around the whole thing, leaving the other straight. Move on to the next set of holes, wrapping the lace around the initial side just like you did at first. The one-sided bows will give your laces some serious flair.
First run the lace through the bottom holes just like you normally would. Run each side of the lace through the hole that is third from the bottom, making an “X” in the middle of the shoe. Bring the lace back down to the second holes, and make another “X” one notch higher up. Keep this up until you reach the top of the shoe, and tie a knot to keep the pattern in tact.
Start with the lace through the bottom holes as usual. Next take both ends and cross them under the bound lace. Pull the strings so you have a rounded double knot. Continue crossing the laces, one over another, pulling tight to get the rounded effect. Repeat this all the way up the tongue.
6. Elaborate Bows
This time you are going to start with your lace pulled through the second set of holes from the bottom. Next pull each end through the bottom hole on the same side. Finally cross the ends and lace them through the holes that are third from the bottom. Repeat this process on the top for another bow.
7. Total Criss Cross
This time start at the top of the shoe. Cross the laces, making two “X” shapes in a row. Then wrap the laces each on the same side to the next pair of holes. Now start the process in reverse, making “X” shapes originating from the bottom of your shoe. This is a criss-cross gone crazy!
First make a big “X” that stretches from the bottom holes to the top ones. Then make another “X” between the holes that are second from the bottom and second front the top. Finally make a small “X” between the two adjacent holes, then wrap the remainder of the laces around the center of the “X” shapes.
9. Twists and Turns
Wrap the lace around the bottom holes, then place the tongue over this line. Wrap each side of the lace around a hole, then criss cross the laces. Continue to cross the laces all the way up the shoe, wrapping the lace around on the same side after each “X.” This style is so cute!
Place the midpoint of the lace around one of the top holes. Next, keeping the laces parallel, wrap them around the middle of the opposite side then the bottom of the original side. Keep them parallel still, wrap the laces across the shoe, and repeat the process on the opposite side.
11. Intricate Laces
Wrap the lace through the middle set of holes, then wind each lace down one side of the show toward the bottom. Next take each lace and send it through the holes you have made by winding the other side. When you get back to the middle, wrap the laces on the top to form a bow.
12. Something New
Send the lace from the top of one side to the bottom of the other side. Send one side of the lace straight across through the bottom set of holes, and twist the other side of the lace through the line formed and to the next hole up on the other side. Continue this pattern all the way up the shoe. No one will have laces like yours!
Wrap the lace in a knot around one of the bottom holes. Next bring it over the hole that is second from the bottom on the other side. Wrap the lace under the same side, and bring it from the bottom hole on that base to the hole that is second from the bottom on the opposite side. Next wrap a knot around this second hole, on the same side as the original knot. Keep this process going until you reach the top holes.
14. Windy Pattern
Send the lace across the bottom pair of holes, then cross each lace up through the holes that are third from the bottom. Pull the laces tight to form a windy pattern, then run them back through the holes that are second from the bottom. Create more twists and turns all the way up the tongue.
15. Be Unique
Send the lace across the top pair of holes, then wind each lace down its own side all the way to the bottom. Next run one side across the bottom, then lace it through every other hole going on opposite sides. Do the same with the other side of the lace. Your shoelaces will definitely be unique.
With so many ways to lace up your shoes, you will never feel bored again! And the extra little change will definitely bump up the flair in your outfit. Enjoy!
