They say that dogs are man’s best friend, but in the case of 4 year-old Sadie, her beloved dog is also her guardian angel.
The hero of this story is a trained diabetic alert labrador, ironically enough, by the name of Hero. This amazing dog can actually tell when Sadie’s blood sugars are running too high or low thanks to his sensitive nose.
In December 2015, Hero also proved his abilities even from miles away.
While Sadie was in her class, Hero began whining as if Sadie’s blood sugar levels were abnormal, despite being 5 whole miles physically away from her.
“Whining is just not his protocol,” Sadie’s mom said about Hero’s abnormal behavior.
Immediately, Sadie’s mom contacted her teacher just to be safe – and you won’t believe what happened next.
“I tested her [Sadie] and she was fine,” Sadie’s teach said. “But in about half an hour, her numbers went down.”
Sadie’s numbers dropped from 122 all the way down to 82, a dangerously low level for Sadie. If this hadn’t been sensed by Hero, Sadie could have suffered a life-threatening seizure or gone into a diabetic coma.
Thankfully, Hero was there to save the day and keep little Sadie safe from harm, even from 5 miles away!
